there is a pack of wild dogs running around my back yard
okay not a pack... just a chow and I think a pitt bull...
not quite wild - they have collars..
Last night it was an opposom that walked right up to my back door and eyed me.
Always interesting in this little urban neighborhood.
And somehow analagous to our quaint community - just never know what surprising/interesting/disturbing or entertaining thing is going to appear when you look out the window.
4. I have hordes of wild squirrels in my back yard and
there are a few wild chipmunks and possums. I had my Rottweiler (97 pounds) in the back yard one night and she lunged at something. Good thing I had a leash on her because that possum was a giant. He/she was nose to nose with my doggie.
This was a few years ago. I had set out a trap for a "spay and release" program in my neighborhood. I thought I had trapped a cat. This was the first time I had ever seen a possum. I didn't know what it was--actually, I was a little horrified. When I got up the courage to release him, he just waddled off like nothing had happened. I didn't think we had possums this far north! Now I love to see them. I think they're terrific.
13. You are one of the very few people who thinks they are nice
I am also involved with neuter and release and it's fairly easy to trap one. They just sort of slowly waddle around looking for food at night. They are loners and don't bother anyone. They clean up the environment when they scavenge. I'm in far northern IL and when it gets super cold they hiberate and don't come out of their hiding spots. I have seen them when they walk around with babies on their backs. It's really something watching them. To me they are cute/ugly whereas most people think they are just plain ugly.
I live in SF. My dog was anxiously looking out the window about 3:00 A.M. and I got up and looked out. There was a big fat white bunny hopping down the middle of the street. Turns out that bunny and another were living in a wooded area in a cul-de-sac right off Portola (turns into Market St). Somebody probably dumped them there. A most peculiar site.
8. wow - I never saw a bunny when I lived in the Bay Area
I was in East Palo Alto - no signs of rabbits there... how sad that they were probably dumped.
I do recall the day that a five foot long snake got loose in Palo Alto - some student had a big snake as a pet, that got loose, created a hole in the wall and was slithering around the city.
Anybody who lets their dog wander around an urban neighborhood unsupervised is a fawking idiot! I'd call animal control. It's better for the animals. It's better for the critters they might encounter.
