5. I don't know about the trailers.
Aeon Flux had a very particular look and ambience. I don't get that from the trailers. I wonder if this will be Theron's "Catwoman."

8. i hear what you're saying but 'catwoman' was a specific & known...
quantity ala 'batman'; my sense is that Halle's entry was too ancillary for even her to carry...i'm wishing Theron all the best in this piece

28. This is a good point.
But I wouldn't be surpised if the cult-followers don't like it either. This may be a way to get those unknowing suckers like us to buy tickets and find out how shitty the film is only after having sat through it and having paid our 13 bucks.

13. It looks disappointing.
The original cartoons that played on MTV's Liquid Television were the best.

14. It just feels wrong
Aeon Flux was great. I used to watch it religiously.

I don't think as a movie that they can portray the sex and violence and nihilism of the original.

Smells like retread to me.

But I hope to be proved wrong.

Khash.

17. i always had trouble with the original animation, being a far greater...
notion; they really needed the intensity of the snow white animators to pull it off, but instead ended up with the hurky jerky 'every 45th cell will do' approach. i'm ready for the live action, you want "sex and violence and nihilism" join the republican party...

sorry Khash, that last line was a natural and i simply couldn't resist the toss

22. OK, I'll admit that was a good one and I walked right into it
The animation wasn't top-notch. But at the time it was unique - a conflicted violent female hero, deeply in love but nihilistic at the same time (love could kiss her ass if it got in the way), fulfilling her mission against a despotic regime. Lovely.

In some ways it reminded me of Captain Harlock (who I'm desperately in love with) and the Queen of a Thousand Years. The whole anti-hero thang I just don't think Hollywood is yet able to do it justice.

Khash.

15. They could have tried to make the locations less obvious
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 07:04 AM by Kellanved
I mean c'mon. These American films set in the London/the future/LA/Moscow/... while the background is obviously Berlin are getting lame. Sure, most audiences won't notice, but I do :grr:

On the other hand: it has its cool sides as well. If only the movies were better...

19. that's debatable
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 08:46 AM by Kellanved
Subsidies and stuff do eat many of the advantages of bad movies being made.

Also, the city being merely used as stage and not as the location of the story reduces the benefits to be earned, star-struck tourists for example.
Good movies would be another story altogether.

But yeah; all things considered I do like the industry to be present.

20. now there'ya go, i've always wondered who sanctions scenes...
filled with berserker french stunt drivers clunking & careening little fiats down 'the spanish steps' and what-not. i mean, i would think after awhile the economic benefit is simply be out weighed

they came here to my town, just shot some of 'memoirs of a geisha' scenes here last year, but we knew going in that we are not japan, we are just a back drop to a larger sweep of world scenery.

it's all good if & when it is good i should say :hi:

23. I have a feeling that I'll be disappointed.
From the trailors and clips played on talkshows, it looks less like the dark, mysterious and eerie cartoon from MTV, and more like a really poorly shot episode of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

I'll probably see it anyway, but I'm not expecting much.

26. From Rotten Tomatoes.com:
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=266530

In what is always a very bad sign, Paramount has decided not to screen
"Aeon Flux" in advance for critics. This is usually a sign that the film will be an absolute stinker, and that they are trying to make a quick buck opening weekend before being savaged by the press.

...

I really wouldn't get your hopes up for this one.

27. yeah, that's what post #6 seems to be alluding to, in a world...
where you ain't considered dick by the lookyloos unless you can knock j.k. rowling, or peter jackson out of the box office, all manner of film is cycling through to DVD very quickly. you want a genuine piece of shit check out this one with or without a 'preview' it matters not
