I think every woman should own one tube of bright, rich red lipstick
I love lipstick and on a whim I bought a shade that is a rich, dark, red almost blood-color gloss. Not sure what I'm going to do with it (not like I can wear this to work) but I think it might be fun with the big red lips!!!

1. LOL I look terrible with red lipstick of any hue.
I could only imagine with bright red

I'm more along the browns/neutrals.

2. Mine was more of a really dark rich red
It honest was almost blood color - not stop-sign color.

And I paid $3 for the tube. It'll be something fun to wear on a whim when I go out at night (not on a date - eep that would be scary!)

never wear the stuff...don't like the feeling of animal byproducts smeared on my lips...i'm sure there's animal-free lipstick, but, eh, i'll pass :)

20. I have never heard of an animal product used in lipsticks
It's mostly wax--

Where did you get that from?

5. I have a GREAT one made by MAC called "New York Apple"
It is my absolute favorite and the only red I wear. Used to have to buy it at Henri Bendel's in NYC during the 1990's because it wasn't sold ANYWHERE in Pittsburgh. Finally could buy MAC in Pittsburgh around 2000.

Try it...it's great.

6. They sell MAC at the Cosmetic Counter at the outlets
MAC is part of Estee Lauder, which btw is a major Blue company, and Estee Lauder has an outlet store called "The Cosmetic Counter" which is found in many of the Tangier Outlet stores. (There are stores in both the Tangiers in Rebobeth Beach and Lancaster). I also stop at the Lancaster once when I pass by to visit family and you can get many of the great products for about a 3rd less than regular department store prices. I absolutely love MAC and especially their lip glosses. I'm also nuts on their eye shadows with Leisure Time, Sumptuous Olive and Sprout as my favorites!

This one I bought was a cheap drug store lipgloss but it was something fun I thought I would try out.

9. I remember when MAC was developed by make-up artists...
Didn't even realize that Estee Lauder bought them. Also didn't realize you could now get it at the outlet stores...I'll have to check out the outlet stores in Grove City (near Pittsburgh)

Hmmm, learn something new everyday. I've always found their prices very reasonable and the quality is still there.

15. Yep, thanks. Started buying it from them as soon as they carried it.
But for years during the 90's it was NOT available anywhere in Pittsburgh.

BTW, I asked Kaufmanns if they will still carry it once some of their stores change to Macy's....they said they will.

22. I only use MAC lipstick.
It's definitely great quality. I love the colors and I love how it lasts.

The color I have that's closest to red is Capricious. I also have Syrup, Birds Of A Feather, Plink, Scanty, and Sweetie. All of those are shades of mauve or pink.

11. Hey, I just bought one the other day!
But it turned out to be a bit... bright - when actually put on. I just tested it on my hand, you see. But if I blot it a bit and put on some gloss or another, more mocha shade, too - it will look HOT!

12. check that cochineal and carmine are not ingredients in foods and cosmetic
s. The red coloring in many lip sticks, a lot of food, and juices are made from ground beetles. So, no red lipstick for me. Also known as carminic acid.

21. I have a wonderful neighbor
she is in her 80's, unfortunatley she is a repuke, but I forgive her, she knows no better - anyway she can dress up in her 40's cowgal jeans with big buckle, white shirt with pearl buttons and that red lipstick - I can't wait to be that old and get away with stuff like that - she looks FANTASTIC! Sort of a Kate Hepburn thang ya know?
