What is your biggest disappointment this holiday weekend?
I wish I would have had more personal time in my own home (rather than travelling), and I really wanted to get the Christmas tree up.

Oh, and institutional food sucks. Pressed turkey loaf. :puke:

And another day is for travelling (sometimes this is 2 days). And you need at least another day to rest.

I think we try to do too much.

Is it wrong to ask someone who is sick not to show up at your house and spread germs? Actually the fight was also about his five and six year old running in and out of my room.

I kept telling myself I could forgive her and try to forget my teenage years.

But now that I have a chronic illness, and the years that were supposed to be my best ones were WASTED on her and her bullshit, I find myself getting angrier and angrier.

And I get SOOOO sick of hearing the same stories OVER and OVER. She thinks she's so much smarter than everyone else, and keeps telling us the same shit, like she's such a historian, even though she knows she's told me before. I'm sick of hearing about the Plantaganets, and Billie Ruth and her stupid pills, and the same repetitive crap.

And then when I can't handle it anymore, and snap "We KNOW!" she gets all offended. "Well I didn't know!"

"Yes you DID! You only tell the same fucking story every time I see you! I'm 39 years old! That means I've heard the same damned story at least 39 times!"

reprehensor tried playing peacemaker for a long time, but even he was getting pissed off this weekend. Especially when her dog peed all over the floor. Twice.

If I tell her I don't want to do this anymore, and that I never want to see her ever again, she'll probably threaten to kill me again. I may be taking out a restraining order sometime in the near future. Who knows?

Mom & Dad live in a Senior residence apartment. The dinner this year was rather disappointing... and that's a shame, because there were several guests visiting their families.

Why don't you prepare some of that great stuff just for yourself? I'm thinking of making a cranberry jello salad (to die for), just so I can enjoy it myself.

If that's too much work, then post a "Send me your leftovers" thread here in the lounge. :)

AGAIN......for my hubby's family.....AGAIN!!! This will be 3 years in a row. My SIL is the only one ever willing to take turns with me on this event, and she is unable to host it this year because she is in med school and her current rotation doesn't end until the 23rd. I really do like to entertain, but it is also nice to go out some years and not have to worry about the expense, cleanup, etc. It is really starting to irritate me that they just expect me to have it. My other SIL who is single actually told me once to my face that I should just always have it because my house is the biggest!!!

He actually said our house would be the "banquet hall" for all the scrooges. He told me to let all of them bring everything and we will keep all the leftovers!! One year I would like to be ballsy enough to not have it on purpose and see if they got together at all without us.

71. Considering the cost of fuel, that sounds like a fair deal.
OR -
Turn the heat off in the house when they arrive. When they ask why it's so cold, tell them "we had to choose between heat or feeding the whole family." It'll get rid of them faster, too.

74. I have a couple of bad teeth...
...one on each side of my mouth. The dentist will look at them on Tuesday, which is my birthday, coincidentally. Makes feast enjoyment a challenge; but at least we had a good bottle of wine. ;-)

82. There are a bunch of us
with the same birthday, Ncrainbowgrrl...
I'm going to set up a party room for us on Tuesday, and we can all have brewskis (or your beverage of choice) here in the lounge.

Hope to see you there! :hi:

79. Are you safe?
I sincerely hope that this situation is addressed, ASAP. Get yourself out of there - and don't be afraid to call local churches for help.

I am so very, very sorry.

83. Two of my family members decided to spend Thanksgiving
with friends instead of family. Even though they had committed to the family gathering earlier and waited until basically the last minute to announce the switch. We found out later the other plans had been in place for weeks but they were reluctant to admit it. It took them hours out of their way to visit the friends, much further than the family gathering. I'm taking it OK but my sister is livid and her comments were the most blunt and negative I've ever heard from her.
