Just saw "Good Night, and Good Luck."
My only real thought at 13 is that I'm running for Congress when I'm older and I'm scared that my ACLU membership, my membership in forums, the fact I used to file-share (I'm trying to convert to iTunes or Napster, looking over which one is better) will come back to bite me.

Murrow inspired me as a real hero, but I don't want to be subject to 21st-century McCarthyism.

Are my worries right? Help me out here, DU.

1. Be true to yourself.
You'd be a hypocrit if you stayed away from what you believed just to run for office. People can usually spot a hypocrit.

2. You're thirteen?!
Welcome, fellow youngin'.

I know what you mean. Just keep clean, and if in the future, if your opponent asks you or tries to Swiftboat you on any of that stuff, just ask him what HE did when HE was on the internets.

Hang in there.

:hi:

5. What I'm worried about is guilty-by-association.
I don't want people to say "there was material posted on such a site that -- was a member of" or "-- did this once and stopped" or "-- is this or that"

6. File-sharing will be the 21st century equivalent of "I didn't inhale"
Mark my words, you've got nothing to worry about.

Me, OTOH? I could never run for public office anywhere except maybe San Francisco (and even then, I'd be a joke candidate). I'd tell you about some of my online activities but doing so would probably get me arrested because you're underage. ;)

At the very least, there are a ton of questionable photos of me floating around the internets...

7. Same here, dude....
That's one of the things that keeps me from thinking about holding public office, ever. :( Sad that our society is so judgmental about stuff like that, but... it is, generally.

9. A shame isn't it
Oh well. I'm president of my house, and I can barely please my constituency of one...my cat. ;)

8. Don't sweat it!
Drugs and falafels are OK, as long as your not pegged to any posts on universal health care or something you should be OK.

11. I mean, I talked it over..

I don't think anyone would care that I fileshared, but I mean I was on a Howard Stern mailing list (I've converted to O&A and I unsubscribed) so that could affect me politically?

Or am I just being a little paranoid?
