each other. They have no idea how insane they are. How do people get so lost and complicated? I feel sorry for their dog.

1. Ech. I feel that. My whole (immediate) family is like that.

For the most part, people get so lost and complicated...through their own actions. Just based on what you posted, there's a lot of insecurity, hatred and self-hatred among the family members who needle each other. Folks like that ultimately must decide to fix themselves, their personality issues, self-esteem problems and overall dysfunction. That's my way of saying that while it may be sad, you might want to let it go. It's not your job to fix it, and you couldn't if you tried.

2. Sorry to hear it,.... I rarely see these folks. Geographical
happenstance hooked us up this year. And even if I wanted, I wouldn't know how how to fix them. I'm amazed how folks get so awful. A Tolstoy quote comes to mind.... something like "All happy families are happy in the same way, but each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way". I suspect my aunt's getting remarried out of fear of being alone is a factor. And her daughter's own tangled divorce causes weird competition between her and her own daughter and between her kids. I am amazed that they all felt so comfortable just let it all hang out over dinner, like we weren't even there. For the first time, I understand the holiday- time DREAD that so many others refer to. Yikes.
