11. Black Sabbath Vol. IV, or perhaps Live Evil
Both rockin' sockin' by the untouchable masters of hard rocking metal.

Anything else - just poseurs.

Though there are other great rockers - Zep, Rush, Iron Maiden, Dio, Ozzy. Still, no one can top Sabbath for pure rockin' crunchification.

23. Even I admit death metal is ick....thats why I like it.
And for the record I don't think SOAD are horrible (especially compared to the rest of the nu metal ilk), just not very hard rocking IMHO.

Actually at this stage of my life most of what I listen to is mellow, atmospheric brit-pop and indie rock. But after 20+ years of listening to metal, punk, hardcore, grindcore, death metal and the like, I still do have a lot of fairly raging stuff in my collection. At this point as a 33 year old father of an infant daughter, not as much of it gets pulled out as used to. But it's still there for the days that I need to just cut loose.

29. You have to consider my likes
Considering my taste, System of A Down is very hard. I just happen to really like them.

I do have my guilty pleasures, but death metal isn't one of them.

To everyone: don't be embarrassed if your choice isn't hard rocking. It's all part of my curiosity.

15. Tom Waits
It's a little different, in that it's not heavy metalish or punkish at all, but Tom Waits "Bone Machine" actually rocks out harder (in a kind of dusty blown speaker cones in the back of a rusted-out 1973 station wagon sorta way) than anything else in my collection (which contains a great deal of scrawny scandinavian death metal, for what it's worth).

It's a double cd of a live concert held to celebrate the end of the 20th century, so it has quite a few of their classic hits on it, including a killer version of Twilight Zone.

52. mind-blowing album
I don't know if it qualifies as "rocking," but by far the heaviest CD in my collection is Miles Davis - Dark Magus.

It's a 2-disc set of a live concert by Miles at Carnagie Hall in the early '70s at the height of his electric era. He's got an enormous percussion section, three electric guitarists and a host of other musicians, and he blows his horn through a wild collection of distortion/echo/delay effects. Heavy, heavy stuff.

It's not for the faint of heart, and a lot of jazz purists hate it. But I find it QUITE tasty.

A couple weeks ago it was HooDoo Zephyr by John Adams.

But right this minute, the hardest rocking CD I have is "On The Corner" by Miles Davis.

White Stripes "Elephant" is some fine rock. It's got that Detroit rage. But Miles Davis was the rock.

76. I can honestly say that I've heard every band mentioned on this thread
and the band Pig Destroyer makes them all sound slower than a tortoise walking uphill in molasses during the summer while Jimmy Stewart reads War and Peace on it's back.

NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

77. ...
They suck. And you certainly haven't heard EVERY band on this thread. Damn lying liberals (kidding, kidding...but I stand by the initial comment).

80. Where to start?
Ah, memories of being a 16 year old headbanger!

Sepultura - Beneath The Remains (although Chaos AD my my favourite Sepultura record)

Celtic Frost - Into The Pandemonium

Death - Individual Though Patterns & Fate (The best of CD)

Obituary - World Demise

Machine Head - Burn My Eyes & The Burning Red

Fear Factory - Demanufacture & Obsolete

Pitch Shifter - www.pitchshifter.com

Korn - Korn

Biohazard - State of the wortd Address (first band I ever saw live)

Add to all this stuff by Napalm Death, Carcass, At The Gates, Pantera, early Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Slayer etc and I have some quite out heavy stuff in my record collection.

81. Ooh lots
but currently I can't take Slash's Snakepit - Ain't Life Grand, out of my CD player. It's seems to permanently stuck in there. Strangely it moves from my house to my car and I can't seem to get rid of it.

Appetite for Destruction, rocks 2 fat ones.

Metallica - Black album

RATM - RATM, phenominal

bloody hell, the list is almost endless.

83. Hmmm let's see...
Probably

Venetian Snares-"doll,doll,doll" or "greg hates car culture". Although technically not rock, it does tend to scare the pants off most people.

Hardest rock? I dunno. The Melvins maybe or Slayer or Barf perhaps.

87. ZZ Top - Afterburner
Every tune on the album is a rocker, with tasty guitar hooks and mumbled lyrics that sound smuttier the more you listen to them...to me it represents the epitome of a rock and roll album.
