In other words, the beloved feels the enormous weight of the lover on her: she is his savior, his hope, his dream, and no human, sadly, can be all these things; it is difficult to reciprocate love because it is all to easy to disappoint the one who loves you.

but also, the beloved is always in danger of being consumed by the lover, of losing themselves in the enormity of that love. That, the fear of losing one's self to a certain extent, is a terrifying prospect.
