Guess who sat next to my daughter at The Game?
My daughter's father-in-law and husband went to Yale.
She and they and grandson Jack traveled from Boston to New Haven for The Game yesterday.

Guess which famous couple sat next to them?

Hints:
1. You will recognize both names immediately.
2. They are well know individually, for work in different fields. Not famous as a couple.
3. The husband is a particular favorite here.
4. My daughter immediately recognized the wife, but didn't know who the husband was until she was told, after the game. She knew him by name, but not by sight. Now she wishes she had known who he was while he was sitting next to her.

Go.

10. More hints:
He went to Yale, she didn't.
They have a daughter at Yale.
He tends to be a private person, shunning publicity.
She was on TV, but not currently, I don't think.

27. Jane Pauley and Gary Trudeau: The rest of the story.
Leigh recognized Jane Pauley right off, but (from TV) hadn't realized what a tiny woman she is. Said she was very friendly and they chatted a lot during the game. Jane was very admiring of my grandson. He's 3 and this was his first football game.

Trudeau was nice, but kind of quiet and reserved.
Leigh had forgotten (or didn't know?) that Jane was married to Gary Trudeau. She would rewally have liked to talk politics and Bush** with him.

I knew tha ladies would ask, so I asked:
She was wearing black slacks and a white down jacket.
And (according to Leigh) "About an 8 carat, yellow, square-cut diamond ring."
Nice shoes, but not the right ones for a chilly afternoon. Leigh kept offering an extra blanket, but Jane declined. Put her feet in her purse to keep them warm.

I would give my left something-or-other to have been there.

30. Nice. Very nice story.
He really avoids the spotlight, for which I like him even more.

His 'toons - the drawings - are never put up for sale, but he does, from time to time, donate them to different political groups (all left, natch) for sale or auction. I got a great big Sunday "Doonesbury" as one of my law school graduation gifts. It was purchased from a gallery that was donating all the proceeds to N.O.W.

That was almost thirty years ago. Garry Trudeau's always put his money - and his art - where his heart is.

Thanks for that very nice story.

Yeah, I admire Trudeau.
Where do (did?) you do your lawyering?
My son-in-law is an attorney in Boston.

I'm a novelist now, but I still hold my Washington, DC law license, among others.

It's a good profession, and I'll bet your son-in-law is a good lawyer.

33. Of course we think he is.
;-)
He's in the process of changing firms and having a hell of a time doing it.

The new job pays a lot more, working conditions are much better, and is more in line with his medical/pharma/litigation specialty.

Over a year ago he went against a client of the new firm and has to get a bunch of "no-conflict-of-interest" sign offs from all parties concerned.

I guess he kind of wiped up the floor with the CEO of the new firm's client (one reason they want to hire him) during a deposition. This guy is being a real prick about signing off on his new employment. Guess he took it personally. You'd think he'd want my s-i-l inside pissing out, rather than the reverse.

I guess it'll work out, but it's a real pain.
