3. I think Norton may do the equivalent
by changing the registry and even when you remove their software the bugger makes changes to the registry that are impossible to get rid of so it pretty much acts as a virus, IMHO. x(

The recent Wired article on Sony's DRM scandal is a GREAT case in point: this rootkit was leaving gaping holes in computer security for a year and all of the major Anti-V companies did NOTHING.
