I think my master cylinder went out.
For several months, my brake pedal has gone way down, unless I pump it.

Now, pumping the pedal does not bring it back up.

I guess I've got to "do something" before I get on the highway and die.

1. it could be a leaky wheel cylinder or brake caliper....
get on dry pavement, fill up the brake fluid, and pump it up as best you can, and see if there are any puddles near the inside of your tires.

Master cylinders are kind of a pain, so you want to rule everything out first.

8. Find a message board for your model
Detail the problem with specifics. Should be some enthusiastic mechanic types who can diagnose and recommend. I've done that twice in the last six months with great results. Last time I thought it was a major problem but the board guessed two sensor relays and they were right. A do-it-yourself for 30 bucks plus tax.

9. If the pedal pressure is down then it's most likely the master cylinder.
And I suggest replacing it very soon. A lot of times people let it go because it seems to just lose pressure when you're holding the brake at a stop but it's just going to get worse and eventually dangerous. The part is probably around $45-$90 plus labor - which is probably less than your deductible.

15. This happened to me and all it ended up being was a simple case
of the brakes needing to be bled. Hope you fare as well, and cheaply. :hi:
