Anyone from Houston?
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:30 AM by Jack_Dawson
I may be moving from California to Houston for a job. What part of town would you live in if you were a young, professional heterosexual man who would like to buy a condo in a somewhat happening part of the city?

I've been there once but was overwhelmed by how massive it was. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thx,

1. Depends on how much you're willing to spend
The museum district is nice. Downtown has some amazing lofts as well. If you're gay-friendly, Montrose is always a popular, happening place.

4. What does that mean?!
Sorry but you're gonna have to really break it down for me. I don't understand terms like inside the loop.

Thx!

5. Sorry, local lingo.
:-)

610 Loop circles the city. West Side near Loop (Galleria area) is nice but pricey. The artist/hipster types usually reside "inside the loop" within that area. Actually right outside the Loop in the Galleria area you may find some nice places between Richmond Ave. and Westheimer.

Does that help?

I lived in Houston for 15 years and I loved it. Well except for the traffic and poor air quality. :o

3. I love the gays...
But wouldn't mind meeting heterosexual chix either. I could buy something for upwards of $400-500K. Where would you live if you were me?

7. You'll be amazed at how far your $ will go there.
Whenever I visit Texas the cheap housing prices always amaze me. Good luck on the move. :hi:

6. There are also lofts going in on the east side of downtown...
...in the Minute Maid Park area. Supposed to be nice, but I have no idea about price.

If I were single, I'd look in downtown, the Montrose, the Heights and the West University area (Rice University). All can be pricey, but there's a universe of difference between California pricey and Texas pricey.

Good Luck!
