How come no one makes TV shows or shorts with monkeys/chimps?

I'm watching some old educational films (from the 40s and 50s) and some other film stuff of that era and the 60s as well, and there were a few films with monkeys playing human roles, and it reminded me that when I was a kid, Saturday shows had monkeys, and a lot of other shows seemed to use monkeys, and sometimes with their mouths filmically altered to appear as they though they are actually speaking.

Why did this style of TV show/short making die out?

I'm glad it did - it's dumb as fuck - but it's a curious anomaly in the history of human art.
