What do you all think I should do...
Okay, so I'm going to be travelling by air on August 4th, and as always I'm taking by backpack with me. I have a bunch of anti-Bush/anti-Republican buttons on my backpack such as "Compassionate Conservatism, a front for Bush is a moron" and "Actually, Guns do kill people" and what not. Do ya'll think this would attract attention from the screeners? I know if they do its illegal, but you never know in Bush's America...tell me what ya'll think.

1. I'd leave 'em on...
...the worst they can do is search your bags, and there's a good chance of that happening anyway.

Of course, these buttons have sharp points on them, and could be weapons...:eyes:

2. they might confiscate them
Or, as the moran would say, obfuscate them and then you'd be out your buttons.

I'd make stickers on my PC that say the same thing and stick them on the backpack.

6. agreed.
Stickers can't be considered hazardous, whereas pins could.

Good luck!

3. Here's how I feel.
Today's air travel is bad enough without adding to the misery.
There's plenty of opportunity to make statements without antagonzing Homeland Security Gestapo. Put 'em back on after you've been through security.

5. Another vote for leaving them on
provided you are not wanted on a warrant nor have anything illegal in your possession, I say don't take them off. Why should we let them intimidate us into self-censorship?

When I recently traveled to Canada, my backpack proudly bore pins that said things like "Oil War" and "No to Empire." Inside, I had books by Palast and Dreaming War: Blood for Oil and the Cheney-Bush Junta by Gore Vidal.

And if you get hassled, just think of the great report you'll have to share with all of your friends at DU. ;-)

7. Consider the consequences, then do as you please.
Personally, I stick to the thought provoking buttons. I have a "No Empire" button on my bag now.

I wouldn't wear a button that calls w* a moron myself. It only serves to offend those that can't see the point anyway.

I'd rather try to appeal to the middle third, the swing voter. I agree with your buttons, and defend your right to wear them....but in the end I don't think that they accomplish much.
