3. is this, like, a metaphor for something?
Or just a decapitated ant?

Are ants like cockroaches, which can live for something like nine days after being decapitated? (Takes 'em that long to starve.)

7. Not exactly.
If you have fire ants close to your house, you won't have termites. The fire ants eat them.

Hard choice.

10. Gee, I didn't know that
I do know this. I once killed a 12" coral snake in my front garden. They are very dangerous and I had small kids. I went into the house to get a jar because I wanted to prove to my husband that it was a coral and not a king. I was delayed getting back outside by about 10 minutes and when I got there it was covered with fireants and only the spine was left.

YUK!

14. Actually, a fly did this...
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 12:44 PM by Lochloosa
In May 2000, we became partners with USDA-ARS to release a parasitic fly, Pseudacteon tricuspis. About 3000 flies were released over a two-week period. A large number of our field staff participated in the releases, and contributed to the success of this project. The phorid fly is tiny, about half the size of a gnat. It is host specific for fire ants, and does not become a nuisance to humans or livestock.
