Poll question: Take a pain pill or don't take a pain pill
I am in moderate pain, because the weather is changing...

If I take a pain pill, it takes a little edge off of it, and I just don't freaking care about the pain. But I end up sweating, twitching and itching all night and my sleep is compromised.

If I don't take a pain pill, my sleep is less disturbed (if I can get to sleep because of the pain).

An added bonus to me taking a pain pill, I get silly and may post something ridiculous...

Mods, this is not a medical advice post...this is just me attention whoring.

4. Take the Pill
I've been suffering a horrible ear infection for 5 days. Finally couldn't take it anymore and went to the Dr this morning. She could tell how bad I was hurting and prescribed me some pain medication. I just took one.

Join Me.

and that makes you
sweating, twitching and itching all night ? Hmmm. Sounds like a hell of a side effect. Try to switch your pills the next time you see the doc. Be careful to monitor your breathing.

Ive taken Viodin before and I did NONE of those.

9. Actually the twitchy is a misnomer
I just startle out of sleep easily when I take them.

All of the opiod pain killers do the above to me...The sweating and itching is due to the release of histamine as a side effect of the drug...nothing anyone can do about that...

That's what they give a friend of mine when he is going through treatments. If they don't give him the benedryl then he has the sweating, twitching and itching experiences.

I hope you get to feeling better soon, whatever you decide.

21. If you can, always take a pain pill.
In my youth I had a bad skiing accident where the shell of my boot cracked and the binding didn't release. For about 500 ft, I rolled down the slope. My ski was flopping around & my leg was flopping around with it. As a result, my knee & ankle sometimes bother me. When it does GIVE ME MY DAMN PAIN PILL!

I wish I'd taken my migraine meds sooner--then I might be feeling better now. If they don't kick in soon I'll have to resort to a second dose with a Vicodin chaser.

37. When it works it is
It has between 50 and 65% success rate for me. Relpax works much better (about 80-90% effective) but is not as cost effective because of my insurance formulary. I can get 9 Imitrex for $20 ($2.22 per pill) whereas the Relpax is 6 for $35 ($5.83 per pill). Therefore I try to take Imitrex first, even trying two doses, before I try the Relpax. Darn insurance restrictions.

narcotics release histamine in the body, thus the sweating and itching.
