For you Colorado DUers
What's the story with the real estate market in your state (wherever you are)? My wife and I are looking to relocate there in the next few years, and are interested in finding some land (20+ acres). We've had our eyes on Durango, but would consider other places as well (around Denver/Boulder/Fort Collins, or Pueblo/Colo Springs).

Are prices going up or down? What are they expected to do in the next year or so?

1. It's a mixed bag
You might do best in Durango. The land would sure as heck be cheaper.

The Denver Boulder area is outrageously expensive.

Pueblo and Colorado Springs is just icky :-)

I'm in the Denver area for the next 24 hours, and it's slowly turning to a buyer's market. But everything is still expensive.

2. Basically correct
Buyer's market. But Boulder is still very, very expensive - Denver less so. Some mountain communities are affordable, but mostly the ones far away from major towns.

Fort Collins area not so bad, but you're 60+ miles from Denver.

4. Perfect Description of Colo. Springs
Icky - and Colo Springs is very GOP due to Air Force Academy, many retirees from military - Pueblo at least is very Democratic

3. We're exploding
Out on the Western Slope. Our little town has had more building permits pulled this year than ever before -- more new construction in-town than I've seen in the five years I've been here. Lots of duplexes, as well as single-family stuff.

That said, I can't imagine the "boom" will be fully sustainable; should be a few bargains in Ouray County once everything gets built. Nice area for acreage -- and lord knows I'd like to see another DUer out here!!

7. Ouray - that little Swiss Alps town?
What's it like living in that area? I always considered too far from anywhere...

8. It's terrible! Don't move here!!
Jes' kiddin' :)

Actually, it's great. There's something to be said for the people you meet, who have made the choice to live in small towns. Lots of funk mixed in, lots of outdoorsy types, and unlocked doors abound.

It all depends what you want to live close to, I think. Worth a look if you have a little freedom in your choices, to be sure. PM me if you ever head this way, we'll take ya dogsleddin' if there's snow!
