Legendary Dog-Eating Catfish Dies
<snip>

BERLIN (Reuters) - A giant catfish that ate a dog and terrorized a German lake for years has washed up dead, but the legend of "Kuno the Killer" lives on.

A gardener discovered the carcass of a five-foot-long catfish weighing 77 pounds this week, a spokesman for the western city of Moenchengladbach said on Friday.

Kuno became a local celebrity in 2001 when he sprang from the waters of the Volksgarten park lake to swallow a Dachshund puppy whole. He evaded repeated attempts to capture him.

"He was our Loch Ness monster," said Uwe Heil, member of "Kuno's Friends," a local rock band named after the fish.

to convine the villagers that Kuno is indeed dead so they can put away their pitchforks and torches.

7. Holy crap!
Can't the catfish injure those people? I got badly hurt by about a ten pounder, although I'm not quite sure what did it. I think they have a sharp fin or something on their back that can pierce you if you hold them wrong or something. I sure as hell wouldn't hold one of those huge suckers.

9. Odd anglers feed their fists to giant catfish
It's not a sport for the faint of heart.

Nothing gets the old ticker pumping like reaching under submerged rocks and into holes in the river bank hoping to feel something -- like a big fish -- snap shut on your hand.

"When they rotate to bite you, they will shake the whole bank," Wilson Countian Jim York said enthusiastically. "You stick your hand in there, and they'll mark you up."

York has the marks to prove it after his last "grappling" outing found a 63-pound flathead catfish in the Cumberland River.

10. Yep, the stuff of legends!!!
I always figured the reports of the TN fish were accurate, but very unsettling because of the Dupont plant and other factories located near the river. I always eat farm-raised catfish. :)

13. Don't forget the 9-foot 'channel cat'
Around the Mississippi river towns of Dubuque and Decorah, the locals speak of the legendary 'channel cat'––a beast reputed to hang out down by the locks, feeding on detritus until they reach enormous size.
