Normally I'd cheer for LSU, but an Alabama win makes the Auburn-Alabama game a much better context next weekend!

Could be looking at OT soon!

We lived in Mississippi for a while, which was even more frustrating, because we got SEC games, but on FSS and JP and other regional broadcasters, we never got to see Auburn or Georgia play. Watched a lot of LSU, Arkansas and the two Mississippi schools, though!

With two redheads, it's pretty much a given that we're going to need to use more than our fair share of aloe in any given year.

Ironically enough, neither of us had gotten a sunburn this year before today!

Thanks for the hug! Glad I was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt, or that would have HURT!!

26. Another four bagger for me today
Miami and USC win, Florida and FSU blow.

Plus the Alabama loss puts my Canes first in line to wiggle into the Rose Bowl in case 'SC and/or Texas stumble. Not going to happen. Only four obstacles remaining and both teams will be multiple TD favorites in their two games, USC home to Fresno State and UCLA, Texas at Texas A&M and then the Big 12 title game, maybe against Colorado.

I don't care about rankings or offenses, the SEC is the best league to watch week to week and year to year. You get much closer to 60 minutes of sustained intensity than any other conference, IMO.

37. I've got two good teams and two good coaches
to cheer for. I grew up in Auburn and graduated from UGA. Both programs have great athletes and coaching staffs at present!

This is one game where I can't really lose each year. I cheer for Auburn most of the time (18 years of indoctrination vs. 4 - AU wins out), unless UGA really has far more to gain with a win than AU does.

Tonight I gott cheer for my hometown team. But I'm not sorry whenever UGA does something well (like that pass reception just now).

Great game!

40. That was awesome!!!
That's the game that inspired me to start an NCAA football thread in the Lounge today. Unfortunately, my creative idea of using "'Cocks" in the subject line to get people's attention turned the whole thing into a pool of thinly veiled innuendo before any real sports talk could commence.

I was as guilty as the next in goofing off in that thread, so I started a new clean one in hopes of finding some folks who really did want to talk football today. SEC football = even better!

South Carolina looks really good this year. I'm not a Spurrier fan, but I'd love to see the Gamecocks growing into the competition in the league. Plus I hate the Gators with a passion!

44. Southern Cal
is a national champion worthy of respect, IMHO. I have enjoyed watching them for the last couple of years. They earn every bit of what comes their way.

I do wish Auburn had had a shot at them last year, though. I doubt we would have won, but we sure as hell wouldn't have given up 55 f-ing points! The Sooners have got to be the most overrated team of the past decade!!

59. Ouch, that reference!
Your profanity I can take, but Southern Cal...

The announcers are now saying 'SC during Trojan games. As an alum I appreciate that, because we've been trying to stop the media from saying Southern Cal for nearly a decade. The USC sports information office asks the broadcasters doing the games to avoid that reference, and this is the first year it's really taken hold. No one on campus or in Los Angeles uses that term. It's essentially a lazy invention of the eastern and midwestern press.

I think Auburn would have been a load for USC to handle last year. I agree we probably would have won, but Auburn's defense would have kept the score down considerably. SEC champions don't get blown out. With the glorious exception of Nebraska over Florida in the '95 Fiesta Bowl.

It's actually a bonus residue of 'SC's success the last few years. If we were still wobbling at 7-4 every year I'm sure that term would be more prevalent.

62. Huh? What are the announcers saying?
You can't review who recovers a fumble? Well, they're reviewing right now.

Announcers, shut up.

Did you see him when that kid missed the AU interception?

He has done a great job with the AU defense. We are lucky to have him!

Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 11:05 PM by southlandshari
Bet that ESPN cameraman didn't mean to capture that up close and personal.

:P

Don't blame the kid, though. That was a bad call.

77. I can't believe I saw that
4th and 10, long completion, fumble in the end zone, recover within the last foot of the end zone. Otherwise a game ending touchback.

Change the channel even on a basic extra point if it's critical. Should be a 98% likelihood. Good luck.

Poor John Vaughn.

Now is the chance to redeem himself after going 0-5 against LSU.

I have never wanted a field goal more in my life - for him as much as for Auburn.

84. Not so fast, my friend
To borrow from Lee Corso.

I didn't realize that 4th down rule applied to a TD as well as a first down. Only the fumbler can recover further downfield.

Now Auburn will just set it up in the middle of the field for a FG attempt and potential 1 point lead.
