Could you write a book?
If so, what kind?

biography? (whom would you start with?)

autobiography?

novel?

kid's novel? (like Judy Blume)

kid's book? (like Dav Pilkey)

non-fiction? (what subject(s)?)

history? (what event/era?)

What could you write?

I think I have two books in me. How about you?

1. Nope. I'm not verbose enough.
I tend to express myself with brevity, which is the soul of wit, they tell me. ;)

24. I'm pretty verbose and spent lots of time in radio talk -- but if I wrote
a book, I don't think it would interest anyone but me.

I'm too busy, too scattered -- maybe a short story or two.

No drive to do it, 'though -- which is my first problem with the idea.

I like writing here! It's quick... and fun... and I seem to have a ready-made audience.

Lucky, are we?

2. Fuck yes. Working at it now.
Fantasy/sci-fi. Also way in to historical fiction and "smart thrillers."

4. Hi, Bertha.......
I'm thinking about a short story.......

Right now, it's percolating around in my brain.....

I currently have a very short story (a segment, really) in the writer's forum, that I just might incorporate into the longer work.

We'll see......

:hi:

6. I have been thinking about it

Definitely history. The only problem is my slight dyslexia which is no real problem on boards, but I tend to mix two sentences, suddenly go from singular to plural and vice versa and other weird errors, so an editor is required. But I have been thinking about it and year after year I start to feel more like a walking library with millions of facts and details stored inside my brain.

Edit: QED. A strange typo emerged.

7. Definitely.
Horror fiction, most likely.

I know, I know... but I love the genre!

8. No but....
I once teamed up with someone to be a writer on a book I thought up.
I provided the topic, the photography and the historic research. The book was titled Bridges to Destiny and it detailed the city of Tacoma's history in light of it's bridges.

I also have some interesting anecdotal stories worthy of Readers Digest but nothing major.

Lastly I suspect that a great Sci-FI could be written up about the hijacking of America by utilizing the tin-foiled-hat conspiracies.
Some of these could be easily adapted

14. I have written (and contributed to)
a number of technical documents (generally engineering documents), some quite massive (some were end-products, others not).

And I can certainly start a book... completely finishing it, however, is another matter.

It's easier in many ways when you have budget and time constraints, because everything becomes a level-of-effort (more or less).

...And I can edit basically forever.

25. Actually, in my case, it started out as a video game I'm developing.
One incarnation evolved into backstory and twelve episodes spanning 60,000 years, plus a prologue and epilogue which add another 90 millennia or so to the story. What I have written now is actually mostly in screenplay-like form. Episodes 3 thru 6 are just about finished.

27. Cool! Best of luck with your project.
I've sometimes envisioned my series as a TV show or movie also, but that's a bad bad diversion, because I can't write a script to save my life. I just can't stand the format. Better to finally finish the novels first. :)

18. Dunno if I'm welcome in this thread...
but here goes - I've written a couple of books (more than a couple really, but I am only shopping two of them around) and several dozen short stories. I've also written a few hundred hours of telecommunications technical training.

The books are full length novels, both over 100,000 words. One science fiction, one historical fiction. The shorts average 5,000 to 7,500 words and run the gamut from science fiction to literary fiction to swashbuckling adventure stories.

You can actually listen to one of the shorts "Iron Bars and the Glass Jaw" as a podcast at www.escapepod.org, it runs about 30 minutes.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about writing, the writing process, or publishing.

22. I wrote a book once, science fiction.
It was never published, but it's still floating around somewhere out here in cyberspace. (And no, I'm not telling...)

I've also contributed to a couple of non-fiction books, but honestly, without a good editor I am utter crap.

There's probably a few more wretched books in me, books of all sorts, but those will have to wait until I've got nothing else to do.

23. I've written four, had three published.
The three published books are activity books for caregivers and family members of Alzheimer's patients. www.eldersong.com (see the Remembering series)

The fourth is a novel that takes place in the Florida Keys. Not as yet published.

29. Yes. Yes. Yes.
It's all I ever wanted to do. And I'm working on a few things but I'm not quite sure where I want them to go yet so I'm just going back and forth among them.

A few things I've been working on are 2 comic books (or if you want to get fancy, graphic novels), an autobiography, and a stand-up monologue that I'd like to get confident enough in to perform.

If all goes well these projects will merge into one cohesive whole (or two) and I'll be a happy camper.

30. I "could" write one of those RW Hate Books
The usual "Liberals are Satanic" shrill-fest. Being a RW pundit is one of the cushiest writing jobs on the planet. It certainly doesn't take any talent or fact checking. I'm not sure it even requires literacy. There also seem to be extremely relaxed standards for plagiarism in that market, so I figure I can just cut and paste from other book experts and the rest from pro-republican blogs.

And even if no one really wants to read it, I'd still make money from the bulk buys to get it on the best seller lists.

Question: Is there a program or web app that can generate titles? You know:

"How ______(democrats/liberals/atheists) are _______ (destroying/betraying/undermining) ________(America/God/Christianity/Families/the Universe)".

It occurred to me this afternoon that I could easily be a right-wing pundit. All you have to do is watch Faux and repeat what you hear in a loud, shrill, piercing voice.

books lately (Madonna, Bill O'Falafel, et. al.), I promised her that if I ever got famous (which I plan on doing), I would never write a children's book, so I'll stick to novels for growed-ups!
