Each year, the fourth graders at my daughter's school have a Veteran's Day program where they honor Vets. The kids invite their friends, relatives, etc to come to the program and they sing patriotic songs.
10 of them read their essays about what veteran's day means to them.
The best part is the vets who get up and share their stories. One dad, a Marine is leaving Sunday to go back to Afghanistan, another dad who is in the Coast Guard is leaving Dec. 1 to go to Gitmo.
The WWII vets are so amazingly cute and have such incredible stories to tell, it is truly inspiring.
My FIL went and said he was much happier to be here than over there. (Meaning Germany in WWII)
Then there is a reception and lunch for the vets and their spouses. It is great.
The only *ahem* moment for me was when one vet stood up and said not to believe the stories about Iraq, that great things were being accomplished there.
