1. Nothing else matters unless...
He's got a brain.

I don't think there's anything as "sexy" as an intelligent man.

But that's just my opinion. :-)

3. Wholeheartedly agree.
There also is something about the look of intelligence in a man's eye that tells you immediately if he is kind, has a good sense of humor, brains, etc.

7. What about shoes? Women, help me out here.
I've heard often, from certain women polls and also in men's grooming/etiquette books, that women notice men's shoes as one of the first three things to look at/notice, and make judgments based on if they're shined, well kept, match the outfit, etc.

is this true women? I was thinking of starting a thread on this very thing yesterday, about the shoes first idea.

11. When you meet a stranger......
look at his shoes
Keep your money in your shoes
Put your troubles awaaaaaaaay

When you meet a stranger
Look at her hands

-"Good Advices" REM

I actually follow that advice.

17. I've never paid attention to shoes
Or wedding rings/lack thereof either, for that matter. I think that's something a lot of women tend to notice first.

25. You mean, they notice the presence or absence of rings?
Thanks for the info about shoes - sounds like women don't really notice them, except perhaps as part of an overall hygiene/dressing scan.

27. There are many things
that make up my first impression of a guy. I'd be hard pressed a week later to even tell you if someone I met was wearing shoes.

9. What he says, definitely
maybe I'm different (though it doesn't seem likely considering the other posts) but I absolutely could not be interested in a great-looking guy if he is either stupid or right-wing. And the combination of the two (which is, unfortunately, all too common) is deadly. I agree with the other ladies: intelligence, sense of humor, confidence, and a genuine appreciation of women. We women know the men who love women and the men who don't. A few clues of what not to say to women: don't start bashing other women. Not Hillary. Not the Ex-wife/girlfriend. Not co-workers. Not your mother. Not Martha Stewart. Of course there are women you don't particularly like...but keep it to yourselves when you're meeting women. The whole woman bashing tirade is a real deal-breaker. Don't parade your past history of failures...that is, if you HAVE a past history of failures. Be positive.

28. Amen to that.
Some guy bashing his mom, his ex-wife or his bitchy boss, or blaming them for all the ills in his life; that's on my top 5 list of rapid turn-offs.

10. On a purely physical level
I notice the eyes first, then the face. Then how they dress, grooming, etc. A great pair of soulful eyes can do it for me! :D

Once I talk to a man for a while I can see if there's anything upstairs or not.

12. What he's talking about/his manner of talking....
I had a guy, in less than 5 minutes, tell me that he graduated from Colgate, worked on Wall Street, and lived in an affluent neighborhood. I didn't ask him--it was almost like he had a speech all planned. He also showed me his driver's license because he thought I thought he was lying.

All of it was said in an irritating "I'm a good catch, you lucky girl" tone.

It turned me off. He came across as either really conceited, or really insecure. Another thing I stay away from is a guy badmouthing their friends/other women/themselves. But then again, tone makes all the difference.

A guy could knock me out by 1)actually looking at me when I talk/he's talking to me (people do this less often than you'd think) 2)being nice to waitstaff/valet/servers, and 3)being tall and thin and elegant and ....ummm....never mind, LOL.

Then his smile.

Then his eyes.

Then his voice.

Then what it is he has to say....

Then everything else.

18. I'm like you.
Hands first. Smile is important, it ties with eyes for me (esp. since a smile that doesn't register in the eyes as well isn't a real smile). Voice is good.

Turn offs: too much body hair. Dissing women. Conceit. Butt smaller than mine. :hi:

20. How about majorly-restored teeth?
I've only got slightly more than 1/2 the OEM pearlies left, but I'm putting some huge bucks into them. (have to. No dental insurance)
It's genetic. Mom lost all her teeth by the time she was 40. Dad's 71 and still has all but 1 of his.

24. His eyes.
The first time that I conversed with the person that was to become my boyfriend of 2 yrs. one of the things that really caught my attention was his green eyes.
They were so delicate looking and plus they are the same color as mine.

Other than his eyes it was the fact that we both had something in common. We both major in english lit.
