230 years ago, "a Corps of Marines" was authorized
by the Continental Congress. Recruiting began the same day from a corner table in Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA.

Happy Birthday to my Marine Corps!

I still can't believe that it has been 30 years since 200. What a party that was.

2. Happy Birthday!
My best Marine story from a bar:

I was in Hong Kong and a group of Marines were on leave and visiting for three days. Wanting to offer support, I ordered a round of beers for them and told the waiter to say, "A fellow American would like to buy you a round."

I picked Coors Light because I like it, and the waiter took it over. While I was watching from about 40 feet away, I heard, "What FUCKING AMERICAN would send us COORS LIGHT? Did he also send bullets with it?"

I burst out laughing immediately. After we all chatted for a while (and they did drink the Coors - hey, free beer), two of them ended up staying in my apartment while they were there so they didn't have to pay for a hotel. Most fun weekend of my life, although one of them did get a hotel when he met "lady company", since I really didn't have any place to offer them privacy.
