Cat survives traffic, 70-foot fall from bridge, 600-foot Columbia River swim

WENATCHEE — A cat leaped from a pickup truck, scampered through bridge traffic, fell 70 feet into the chilly Columbia River and swam 600 feet to shore before being rescued, Wenatchee Valley Humane Society officials said.

The gray, longhair calico cat, which wore no collar or identification, "ate ravenously" at an animal shelter after the ordeal, Humane Society officer Jody White said.

"She's a nice kitty," White said Monday. "I just hope we can find out who she belongs to and get her back home or find her a new home."
Joi Singleton of East Wenatchee told The Wenatchee World she and her husband, Ron, were driving on U.S. 2 and U.S. 97 over the Odabashian Bridge on Sunday morning when they saw something come off a pickup a couple of car lengths ahead of them.

"We swerved out of the way and realized it was a cat," she said. "It got up and ran. People behind us swerved. It jumped the barrier to the other side of the highway and people there were swerving."

5. If by "super powers" you mean the amazing ability
To sit around all day sleeping and cleaning oneself while your servant waits on your every whim, then yes, you are correct! :D

8. Wow
But because this involves a cat, I'm not surprised that the cat survived.

I've heard of many remarkable experiences that only a cat seems to have been capable of surviving.

9. That's one more example of the athletic ability
I talk about when I talk about cats. Most people seem to think I am nuts to look at cats as athletic, but they are tough critters sometimes. I'm glad the cat is ok.

10. That is true...
Cats are the least domesticated of the domesticated animals, and are remarkable survivors of damn near anything thrown at them. Hence the stories surrounding them having 9 lives, being Gods and many other things.

11. They sure have been through a lot. Much like the human
species, the black ones have particularly been through a lot. I always tell my Domino to stay out of the window during this time of year. One of my black cats was shot at during Halloween years ago. It nicked the bricks on the side of the house. Luckily, the guy was drunk enough or just a bad shot enough that it didn't hit her or the window. I would have loved to have found out who did it exactly. I've been paranoid for my cats ever since.

12. I have a black cat too, her and the other cats stay in an indoor room...
during Halloween. BTW: Odd fact about black cats, there is no more true black cat breed anymore, like my cat, for example, has a small white spot on her belly, and most black cats are like that in coloration. The reason for this are the Witchhunts of the middle ages, they were quite through in many respects at killing innocents during those days.

14. What a shame
I was aware of the terrible treatment cats got during the Dark Ages, but didn't know it had gone that far.
Mine's a tortoise-shell that likes to fight & bite - she doesn't take ANY crap.
