Sad News longtime DUers....I was running a search on something,
and I came upon a post by Scottie72

Anyway, I visited his livejournal to see how he was doing because I hadn't seen him in a couple of months. It appears he passed away on October 1st. My heart hurts so badly for his partner who posted the message. I just wanted to let people know, because that's the thing that worries me most. How many DUers have we had pass through here, make a mark, and then fade away without recognition.

Scottie...you were a gentle, kind, and wonderful DUer and you WILL be missed.

1. OMG!
This is terrible news! NO words can express what I feel right now.

Scottie and I got to know one another on another forum, and built up quite a friendship. Unfortunately after that other site (a gay forum) was hacked and the Web master couldn't repair the damage, Scottie and I lost contact.

This truly is a sad day!

Scottie, I know you are reading this from above. Sapph and I love you dearly, and you are gonna be missed.

What a terrible loss to both the DU community, and the queer community!

MrsG, thanks for posting this.

and glad that his passing won't go unnoticed here. He was a really nice guy.

9. I feel bad as well!
I was just thinking about him the other day and made a note to drop him an email this weekend.

I have been getting into digital art again recently. I think I will create something in honor of him to put up on my Web site.

God! I am so shocked. When we last corresponded he was upbeat and said he was feeling good. He had talked about moving to California with his partner and all.

Life really is too short to throw away on meaningless shit. We never know what tomorrow is going to bring.

Sorry, MrsG for rambling. I would normally ramble to Sapph about this kind of stuff, but alas, she is still sleeping.

2. RIP Scottie....
I know what you mean about DUers that pass through, and we "regulars" don't have anyone to let us know if they are sick, or passed on.

Do you remember Playahata1? One of her friends posted that cancer finally got the better of her....I really liked her posts...she was an early favorite of mine. Oddly, a week after we found out, Michael and I ran into one of her colleagues from FL at a truck stop in the midwest--

Very, very odd-but, kind of nice. Gave me a sense of reality for someone I had never met-

I am sorry to hear about Scottie- VA is next to NC, so maybe we will run into one of his friends-

Stephanie

closure to run into one of her friends. I left a message on his partner's site letting him know how sorry I was. His last post about the chemo sounded so upbeat.

This is such tragic news. I was reading through his journal and it's just such a heartbreaking loss of such a great and wonderful person.

Farewell Scottie72. Thank you for touching the lives so many around the world through your contributions here and on your blog. You will be sadly missed

13. Anytime you hear the word "anaplastic" in relation to cancer ...
it's bad. I recently had to have half of my thyroid removed and was sweating the diagnosis. It turned out to be benign, thank god.

15. There have been several DU'ers
Slip away without much notice. Unless they have someone post afterwards we may never see anymore than a has anyone seen a x thread.

There was a DU'er in New Orleans during Katrina that as far as I know has never checked in and damn my faulty memory I can't remember their alias.

If I don't check in for a couple of weeks, then everyone can assume the worst.

RIP scottie.

He posted in the Louisiana forum and has been spotted in GD. (I *think* he was the last LA DUer on the MIA list from Katrina.)

21. Glad you noticed this
There are so many Duers now, seems like almost twice as many as when I signed on.

But each one who visits and leaves his or her mark shouldn't be forgotten and bless you for noting Scotty's passing.

I hate for anyone to disappear without a remembrance
makes me feel awful

RIP Scotty. :patriot:

23. I've said it before and will say it again.
Folks don't realize how their lives can touch others, how their energies can either add to someone's life or steal from it.

The ripple effect is real - so many here have touched my life and I am so very grateful. Thank you MrsGrumpy.

Rest in peace dear Scott.

24. It seems as though we have had more than our share of saddness
over the past year.

It becomes a bit sadder when I learn of a memeber's passing in this way. Scottie and I had a very brief passing on DU, just one of those things where you notice someone and just figure, this person is OK, might be nice to get to know him.

Alas, the chance will not be there now...:(

While my knowledge of Scottie is cursory, I still feel as if an important part of out community has departed. Each demise diminishes mankind, to paraphrase John Donne; and the earth is now lacking a kind and caring soul.

May Scottie72 Rest in Peace, and may those affected by this loss be consoled by the knowledge that he was a kind and decent individual; a person who will be missed by all who had the the pleasure of coming across him...O8)

27. How sad.. I still remember when Olaf, the White disappeared.
He had a brain tumor(if I recall) and was anticipating surgery.. We all hung in there with him trying to bolster his spirits as the day approached, and then....nothing..

We should all have one person who could log into DU in case something ever happens to us..

Usually they dom but I too suspect that some we have "lost", we may never know what happened to them

Very sad about Scottie:cry:

I still miss him...and wish there had been somebody to post on DU to let us know what happened to him. His articles were the best.

We have lost some good people on DU--Olaf was one of the best, imo.

28. This is very strange...
I haven't been here for probably 3 months and I finally show up and see this post (I've only been here about 3 min.) Scottie72 was one of the very few people I ever PM'ed. He had the same conditon as my father, and I just got back from taking him to the doctor. I don't know what to think about this kind of shit sometimes, what are the odds? RIP Scottie.
