I've been a stranger but NOT a slouch.
I can't believe how long it has been since I've posted here! I'm not sure I'll know anyone here anymore... but here goes. I've been working pretty hard against the war and for election reform. Information tabling every saturday in Keene NH. It is amazing how the tide has turned...a year ago we couldn't pay people to sign a petition against the war. Today, they were lined up waiting to sign. My group is also focused on the 2006 mid term elections...the plan is to get the Bush lap dog repubs out and some acceptable alternatives in.

For years people would ask me if I was related to Brad Pitt...now they ask me if I'm related to William Rivers Pitt (maybe it is the crowd I'm hanging around with) and I love the reaction when I tell them that I'm his Mom...they looked shocked, as if Will was hatched out of an egg. Anyway, at first this irked me because I spent years practicing law and trying making a name for MYSELF and now I'm Will's Mom...I guess I could have worse problems!

Winter is coming but the last 3 weeks in NH have been beautiful and warm. I feel some optimism about our future for the first time in a long time...I'll turn 60 this February and if God gives me another 20 or 30 years, I am beginning to think that with some hard work, I might be able to leave this world beter that when I arrived in it.

For those of you "oldsters" who remember me...hello again and how are you guys?

1. I don't think we 'know'
each other, but I'm pleased to 'meet' you! And, thanks for ALL you are doing. NH must be beautiful this time of year. I've driven through NH but never vacationed there, would love to some day.

The world is BETTER for having you in it.

4. Pleased to meet you!
NH didn't have it's usual georgous fall...too much rain, I think. But it is still beautiful and a really nice place to live. I love listening to the morning and afternoon traffic reports from Boston (my former home) they really make me appreciate this part of the world!

2. Raven! How is the cabin, and your big fur puppies?
I HAVE missed seeing your posts!

btw...are you related to Brad? If you are, please call him and tell them that saints on the world stage can still qualify as sluts.

Thanks so much!

Stephanie

Good to see you! :)

5. I wish I was...I'd be rich.
Maybe Will should become a shill for the Bush administration...then I'd be rich, but mortified!

7. I love your name.
I have two kitchen witches and I love them. They don't make me a better cook but I think they help me avoid burning stuff! By the way, the work is easy and fun. I've met many nice folks and it has helped me feel a part of this community...so it works bot ways.

6. Hi, Raven!
We haven't met, but I am a big fan of your son's writing and I especially loved the pictures of your gorgeous cabin.

Thanks for doing all you have done to bring about the end of the war.

11. He posted pictures of the cabin???!!!
I hope the beds were made! Actually, he's a better housekeeper that I am. He house and dog sat for me last month and had about six guests and when I came back I could eat off the floor...where did that come from!???

12. Eek. Looks like I let the cat out of the bag.
Mostly pictures of the beautiful surroundings. I was especially interested because we are considering purchasing a cabin in the Blue Ridge and I was inquiring about the upkeep and all. My kids are still young and even though my husband is desperate to do this, I am nervous about how much extra time it is going to cost me...I don't have a lot of spare time right now to begin with.

17. You need to pick the right cabin.
Solid...the longer they have been around, the better. You will have to "winterize" the place in the Fall...drain the plumbing...get anything that will freeze out of there. You might want to have someone available to shovel the roof if there is heavy snow in the winter. If the cabin has been around for awhile, chances are it will survive the winter. My cabin is about 70 years old and I suspect it has seen everything!

13. Wow! It's great to see you again. You know, "the boy"
is what I say to tell the dogs that Will is coming. When I say "where's the boy" they race into the yard and watch the road. But I guess if my Dad called me "the girl" at age 34, I'd be pissed...he doesn't seem to mind.

15. I wish I could cook as good as I can recommend ...
but that is a great dish! The dogs...have you got an hour? My old dog, Gypsy, is 15 and still going...I almost had to put her away in March but the Vet had a new med for the pain in her hips and it has worked like nothinbg else I have tried...and no side effects and she takes a walk up the road every day. I have a new puppy, well not new...she is 18 months...but still very much a puppy. She is Tinker...the Irish name for a gypsy...se has also given Gypsy a new lease on life.

24. Did you get your kitchen renovated?
You were annoyed with (Home Depot?) in the last post of yours I remember.

BTW, Will babysat my luggage for a few hours when I was in Boston in the spring. It was a last minute thing - and his apartment was amazingly clean, especially for a bachelor - but you might be relieved to know that his bed was UNMADE *gasp* AND he didn't even bother to hide it by closing the door! He's not perfect after all.

Good to see you again, don't be such a stranger.

25. I remember you Raven and welcome back
Of course I remember you. In fact you were one of the first people on DU whose post I responded to after I had initially joined. I remember how much I thoroughly enjoyed your posts and how much you and Will Pitt used to talk about each other in your various threads.

I wondered what had happened to you. It’s great to see you back –and I hope to see much more of you! :hi: :yourock:
