WinXP already has built-in support for skins. Disable XP's themes via the services control (click START, click RUN, type SERVICES.MSC, and look for THEMES, and disable THEMES, and reboot) or else you'll waste tons more RAM than you'd otherwise would... Object Desktop works for all Windows versions... and pre-XP did not have a THEMES setting.
Object Desktop, in my years of experience, tended to make the desktop unstable after a while, regardless of which Windows OS was used.
Then there's Linux, which is far more efficient in the first place AND gives you a skinning capability...
Sad, really, I was a Stardock fan since day 1, when they supported OS/2. But their products, while being nice ideas, have many bugs, and I've figured out how to quickly win or lose at Galactic Civilizations (but that's another story with its own set of bugs, making me wonder how reviewers gave it such a high rating in the first place...)
Do try it though, they may have fixed their bugs... or you'll see what I mean when your desktop goes unstable... :scared:
