and I'm trying to go as long as possible without lighting the pilot light for the heater.

Spouse got a hold of something last year that works real well as a fireplace insert... we priced them and they were kind of expensive. The improvisational model works well.

We cut back a lot of the trees in the yard earlier this year, for the veggie garden and front lawn to be able to get more sun. So that's what's in the firewood bin right now.

28. We're at 67 on the main floor, but only 65 upstairs.

We have not turned on the furnace yet. I'll keep the daytime temp set about 65-68 anyway. The kids have quilts and down blankets, we have a really warm comforter, and we have lots of throws (down, fleece, quilted) in the family room for snuggling under while reading or watching TV.

Sweatshirts, sweaters, and warm blankets. It's kind of nice to snuggle anyway.

I always looked forward to the few days that we got of winter when it would hit in the middle 40s. I'm in North Georgia now where there are actually seasons, and not just summer and spring all year round.

it's 90 and sunny. My house is just really cold becasue of the bad design, high ceilings and a builders grade fireplace that sucks the warm air out of the house. I bought a new fireplace insert today that was costly but it cranks out 30,000 btus and will hopefully heat most of my house for at least 40% less then what it costs now.

Right now I'm keeping the heat at 62 or so in my house. If I'm moving around, like cleaning, then it feels okay. If I'm sitting, I use a small space heater near me to make it more bearable. I also sit with a blanket in my lap.
Didn't you adopt a fluffy cat? Get him to sit on your lap and use his tail to keep your nose warm.

Maybe it's time to adopt a lap cat. Maine Coons are big --- they'll cover a lot of lap. At night, he/she can stretch you along your back and keep you warm while you sleep.

Invest in a pair of sheepskin boots. Those things keep me warmer than two extra sweatshirts, I swear. I think 66 is the top of where we're going this winter, el cheapo for us, too. I wish we had a wood stove. I'd gladly chop and split wood to save the $$...
