1. A lot of my neighbors have moved there.
Supposed to be pretty similar to where I live in terms of housing costs, etc., People appear to really like it.

2. So a transfer from VA to NC would be pretty easy, eh?
I'm thinking about looking for jobs in that area and moving down there

4. it is the same as my second name :)
I lived near Charlotte, N.C. when I was a nanny. It is a fast growing city. The area around is nice with all the lakes, esp. in the north. I liked it. The new Basketball team sucks. too bad the Hornets went to New Orleans.

8. Speaking as someone in Greensboro...
... I've only been to Charlotte for three reasons: a) the airport, b) the INS office (green card issues), and c) visiting my wife's college friends.

I'm told there's lots more to do than in Greensboro. Greensboro was ranked bottom out of a survey of 40 cities as for fun things for singles to do (hence we're often called Greensboring). Charlotte however isn't much better - it came #36. Can't remember the survey; it was in the freebie conservative newspaper that we have here (Rhino Times).

Yes, it's a pretty area. If you live in VA close to DC then it's probably a little cheaper - but there's probably less to do, DC is about 6-7 hours away... but being Charlotte you're far enough away from any coast to worry about being struck by any hurricane badly but not so far away you can't drive to the beach for the day... and if you want ski-ing then the mountains to the west will serve you well. Charlotte is also a very suburban city - so a car is almost essential to have. If Charlotte public transit is anything like Greensboro's then it's a case of "what is a bus?".

If I were given a good job in the Charlotte area I would be tempted to move. But only after I've finished my education.

Mark.
