Poll question: Should people who smoke at gas stations be caned?
Looks like everyone is getting their pet peeves aired today. Here is mine.

1. I'll actually vote yes on that one
though it won't do any good - they're too friggin' stupid to live anyway. I recently actually saw a man throw a butt into a puddle next to a pump. Mildly insane, if you ask me.

6. What are you talking about?
I hate smoking more than anything, but i don't think my husband is some sort of 'problem' when he walks completely across the parking lot and away from the gasoline. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want him to quit. That said, some people ARE capable of common sense and politeness...

3. Boy are you asking for it.
Anytime smoking comes up at DU, it's a fight between dedicated non-smokers and those addicted to smoking who would defend that right even in the most dangerous of situations and at the cost of the health of anyone else nearby.

8. As long as most gas pumps are monitored by video cameras...
I'd suggest using public shame as a behavior modifier. Show video of gas pump smokers on local television, along with a request that anyone who knows the identity of any of these menaces to the public safety contact the local police. There must be statutes against such idiotic and dangerous behavior?

Better yet, how about fire extinguishers that can be activated by the cashier when he/she spots a pump smoker on the video monitor. Just spray'm with foam!

9. How about those who leave the car running while getting gas?
I even told the lady to stop the car - I don't think she understood - she just smiled and nodded. Then I said "we'll go boom!" (or something to that effect) and drove off quickly.
