Hey fellow FireFox ver 1.0.x users! I just downloaded ver. 1.5 rc1!!!
What is FireFox 1.5 RC1?

Basically it's FireFox, version 1.5, except their not quite ready to call it that yet. Here's how they describe it at the FireFox website:

<http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/>
Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1

Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. This is the first release candidate of our next generation Firefox browser, to be released later this year, and it is being made available to our developer and testing community for compatibility testing and to solicit feedback.

Note: This is not the final release of our Web browser, it has been made available for testing purposes only, with no end-user support. If that sounds scary, you'd probably be better off with the latest version of Firefox 1.0.

Hey, I've been using it for several hours now, and except for the options panel being laid out a little different, I can't tell the difference.

And their is this <http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/rc1.html>

But most likely, nothing bad will happen, I started using FireFox when it was called "Firebird" and it was version 0.4, and it was already almost perfect.

If you can't tell the difference, why bother downloading it?

EDIT: How did this thread end up on the Latest Page????

2. Bug fixes and Security updates...
remember those are two of the most important things, but also they shouldn't be obvious to the user.

7. Why "Latest Page"..
I believe that the "Latest Page" is just the last 20 or so posts that have been made anywhere on the board.

However, "Late Breaking News" is only for... well, late breaking news. Maybe that's the area you were thinking of?

8. I originally posted it to the General Discussion, which do end up...
...on the "Latest Page." It seemed fairly "General" at the time.

A better question is, Why did this get moved to the Lounge? I don't understand how some of the Mods think.

And to answer you first question, some folks just like to have the newest version of the software they use, why? It's better?

3. Firefox pissed me off
I can't really describe why, it just did. I'm sure it will be a favorite of mine in a few more version upgrades, but for now it still has too many quirks for me to want to use it.

10. Are you talking about how some "Internet Explorer preferred" websites...
...don't really work right with FireFox?

If so, their is good news, they added a new tool (which I haven't used yet) that is for reporting that type of website, so that the programmers can fix those types of problems.

13. There's an extension called IE View
Right-click on a link and it gives you the option to open it in IE. Very handy.

4. What extensions do you use?
I'm trying to figure out if I want "linky" or "launchy" or "flashgot".
I don't want firefox downloading .mp3 files into a temp directory,
I want it to pass the url to winamp.

9. I tried Opera for about 2 days, hated every minute of it.
Plus, until you pay them, it's has too many restrictions.

11. I can understand not liking it, but...
I don't know of any restrictions the free version has. They even got rid of the ads.

With the latest versions, they seem to have cluttered things up a bit and I had to spend some time getting it to where I can work with it. And it still refuses to work with some of the more perverted Javascript and off-the-wall nonstandard HTML, so some pages don't load right. But, most of the goodies other browsers brag about, Opera got there first.

Been using both Opera since v3.x and Mozilla/Firefox since it was born, and I end up using Opera 90% of the time since it does almost everything I want without having to deal with extensions, plugins or add-ons. It's also considered a bit more secure by the people who test security.

12. Good to hear they made some improvement and got rid of the Ads...
...the Ads were probably the biggest turn off for me.

Maybe it's better now (I tried it about 6 to 8 months ago), but to me, it seemed clunky and slow, It also might be my longtime relationship with and use of the Netscape/Mozilla/FireFox{FireBird} since Netscape 2.0, Mozilla 1.4 and FireFox (which originally was called Firebird) Version 0.4.x.

Choice is good.

Keep up the good work TB
