"Dead Zone," "Deep Space Nine" Creator Dies
Michael Piller, the creator of sci-fi series "The Dead Zone" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," has passed away at the age of 57.

Piller died at his home on Tuesday, after a long battle with cancer. He created the long-running cable series "The Dead Zone" with his son, Shawn.

Trekkies may know him best as the creator of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" as well as the follow-up, "Voyager." He also wrote for many successful shows, including "Simon & Simon," "Miami Vice" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation," among others.

Piller is survived by his wife and two children.

3. Way too young to go.
And some of his work on TNG season 3 was quite good indeed.

7. He has left behind a good legacy.
I can only hope that when I go, I will have given the world something as good and beautiful as many of the shows he created. Sure, it's a job, but Mr. Piller gave us works of art that will last in our memories long beyond the memory of the individual. That's what life should be about, IMHO. Rest in Peace.
