I think GD:CIA Leak needs to be separated into two more sub-groups:
1. GD: CIA LEAK; The Defeatist Manifesto.
2. GD: CIA LEAK; Fitz worship and euphoric hysteria.

I don't know where that leaves the "cautiously optimistic" among us, but I'm sure we can furrow in somewhere.

5. I know....anyone just looking in for the first time might think there's
a bunch of crazies on board- and we KNOW that's not true!:P

2. Confusing. Use the old standards:
1 GD: CIA LEAK: Fights and Acrimony
2 GD: CIA LEAK: Warm Fuzzies (?) (I actually don't remember exactly what the "happy" forum was called a year ago.)

6. Those would pretty much apply, wouldn't they?
They're just more honed-in over the indictment situation.

3. Yeah it's getting a little overwrought over there.
Let's all just let Fitz do his job. These clowns planned a long time to be in power. It's gonna take more than a day or two to bring 'em down.

7. That's my feeling, too. I want to see the Repubs exorcised from the WH,
but I'm not going to get hysterical at either end of the spectrum. I don't need the disappointment when over-blown expectations get knocked down a few pegs, even if only temporarily. We may (god forbid) have three more years to live through all the stress and crap of this administration and we've got to conserve at least some emotional energy, imho.

4. You forgot a category.
GD: CIA Leak; Fuckheads who post contentless, cryptic, one-line OPs that say nothing of use to anyone seeking actual information.

10. That is a perfect subforum
You should ask Skinner if it can be included!

13. I despise number 1 more than number 2
Though both have their moments, I guess.

It's funny, but I had a post written last night I never sent that was basically a parody of the 2 based on what I figured would be the reaction to Fitzgerald's PC and the indictments going down; the sad thing is that today before I left for the hotel (and just after the PC happened), I saw 5 threads started that were almost word-for-word reproductions of my parody of those in the number 1 camp. I was incredibly sad, but completely expected.

How anybody could see what happened today as a "loss" in any way either baffles me or infuriates me, depending on who's saying it. A chief of staff for the VP was indicted times 5 and resigned today, Fitzgerald has said he's not done, and Rove is still under investigation, for god's sake; how is that anything other than a disaster for W and Cheney?

Between the instant gratification crowd and the "we're alll dooooooooooooomed, doooooooooooomed" people here, I realized that critical thinking for alot of people here and in the country at large has vanished; instead of checking out the written indictment itself and thinking it out logically, that have to have Randi Rhodes, Limbaugh, Hannity, Franken, or the parade of talking heads TELL them how they should be thinking or feeling. It's insane.

Being cautiously optimistic is a logical reaction to today's events I can understand; being a little peeved that Rove wasn't punked yet I can buy, but the drowning negativity by the DU wailing choir is just whacked-out stuff.

They don't get it, and never wi il.

15. I think a plurality at least of DU would agree with you
But the nature of the internet makes the most extreme, radicalized sentiments popular, because they are more interesting than a more sober take on events. I don't think that means people agree with the sentiment, but since it is more exciting and more likely to cause someone to reply they are popular and stay at the top of the forums.

Probably the worst example of this was during the certification for electoral votes, wherein Hillary Clinton was a worthless zero, then a superlative absolute hero, then a zero, then a hero, then finally a zero again all in a few hours. It was really whiplash-inducing. x(

16. Yeah, I remember that
And I know what you're saying; hysterical posts on both extremes are the Jerry Springer Show of internet message boards; it's what grabs attention and inflames passions.

I don't know; I used to be a warhorse on USENET in the 90's on a number of political newsgroups and had my share of screamfests and intense debates on geo-political issues until I got burned out on the whole process; even though I've been posting here for over a year I just don't have the fire in my belly to stomach that kind of message bord whiplash anymore. I just throw up my hands when I see those kinds of posts..

Just as long as I don't need to go anywhere near the defeatists.

18. As usual, Skinner's best attempts are going to waste...
All optimists in one group, all pessimists in another.

Where do we realists post?
