2. You have to wonder at the hypocrisy that sends troops to Iraq

Where we're hated, while ignoring the Liberian tragedy, where the people are begging for our help. Bush has made all the wrong choices. I'm technically an isolationist, but I think we could stabilize Liberia, something we will NEVER do in Iraq. It's shameful that after all the humanitarian rhetoric that this maladministration has spewed in defense of its bloody wars, they turn their backs on just the kind of people they claim to be looking out for. One gets the impression that president Junior can't be bothered to go help a bunch of servant-class darkies with none of the vital oil needed so desperately to pump that corrupt black lifeblood of the heart of American darkness.

Damn, I'm on a roll.

To date just 41 marines have been dispatched to Liberia, and their primary mission is to protect the embassy personnel and the refugees who have crowded inside for protection.

Edit: actually, the 41 were a reinforcement to the existing embassy guard. I haven't yet found a source for exactly how many marines and other U.S. military personnel are there. "Not many" is the short answer.
