How does one become a "fixture" on DU?
Is a "fixture" on DU a toilet bowl? Or someone who has been on the board since January 05? Or someone who has been on here since the beginning? Just wondering what form of delusion I've just encountered here on this board. Thanks!

14. In logic, that is known as "appeal to authority"
Fixture or no fixture, unless you said something to the effect of "anyone who would say that must be a troll" ( for which that sentence MIGHT be an appropriate response) it matters not that they are a "fixture" around here.

4. i would say it has to do with lucidity, reasoned discussion, ...
avoidance of "whinyness", friendliness/antagonism to ideas (not persons), a very limited use of sarcasm...all over an extended period of time, slowly building the trust of others in your opinion.

which is all to say i am NO "fixture" on DU.

7. Am I a fixture?
Yeah, probably not. Funny, I don't usually look at the poster name and say, yeah, I value their opinion more than other people I've never heard of. There are a few names I recognize and I know what type of post to expect from them but alot of people with several thousand posts, I can't recall ever seeing their name before. Maybe I'm in the minority of regular posters.

12. In the beginning....
Kinda Biblical, huh ? LOL

There were few enough people here, that , there was no doubt about who was who and what their views were. But as time has passed and the numbers have skyrocketed, ya just don't know what yer gona git !

Us old fixtures have given way to the new fixtures, and I think that's a good thing.

8. Several ways, I think.
Your post sounds fairly specific, what delusion did you encounter?

Criteria might include:

A Long-time member
B Very active, high posting member (does not necessarily overlap with A.)
C A "personality". I can think of several who have "styles". Check the Lounge.
D. more as I think of them.

16. Some are light fixtures, some are bathroom fixtures other are household.
In real estate, a part of a piece of property that is permanently attached so that to move or remove it would damage the property. The fixture is considered a part of the property if it shares the same useful life as the rest of the property.

I don't know what type of fixture I am in the DU house.

:) :toast: welcome to the fixture portion of your life

18. Is a DU fixture like a usenet policeman or something? I think if
one is very concerned with their DU status, then they definitely need to spend some time in the real world enjoying the fall weather, as I plan to be doing in about 15 minutes. After all, from a certain perspective, this is just "CB radio with a lot of typing thrown in." 3's and 8's Good Buddies. lectrobyte signing off saying keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.

20. Define "fixture"?
I have over 800 posts but half the time I feel like an outsider.

There was a time you could ask a question and it would immediatley get answered with many thought provoking responses. Now that's a crap shoot.

It has become a little "clicky" here. If you are a "fixture" you can put the word "Fart" in the subject line and get 100 replies. But others could start the most interesting thread and it will sink quicker than the Titanic.

But having said that, I still love this site and everyone here because we are united in taking our country back. And there is no place on the "internets" where you can get news faster.

What was the question again?...oh yeah..how to become a fixture.

I don't know.

28. I've been here a while and I am NOT an end cap. TYVM.
Sorry--the old retail lingo comes back all too quickly...

I dunno about this whole "fixture" thing. I think I'm an old fart on here, but I doubt that more than a handful of people on here know who I am (or even give a crap!)

I don't post a lot anymore, and I have never been accepted as Mod, thus my post count is not one of the highest on here.

I don't camp out in the Lounge posting too many nonsense threads, and I'm not part of any "clique" that I have noticed.

I have never really worked at being an asshole to anybody nor have I ever really gone out of my way to be controversial. I have no real persona on here.

Damn. I am a nobody on here. ALL this time and I am a nobody. I have pissed away all this time and have exactly WHAT to show for it????? I'm just gonna go sit in the garden and eat worms.

-----------I'm done screwing around now------------

Don't let anybody get to you, NVMojo. This is a place to interact and to find info. IF you want it to be, it is a community. Otherwise it is just an online message board that has no bearing in reality.

Peace.

Laura

37. Good heavens.
PM me a link. Please.

I would think of a "fixture" as someone who is known for their specific style and consistent posting. This might be an intelligent string of posts in a certain area, a style of humor, or even always hanging out and contributing to a certain group.

But just 'cause someone's a "fixture" in a sense doesn't give them the right to be rude.
