Bizarre adventures at the mall

So we go to the mall. Hubby has to return something at Sears. I leave him there and go to Victoria's Secret. On the way, I'm accosted by about 8 different people, all trying to sell something. When did they start shilling so aggressively in the mall? People trying to sell phones or have you try perfumes or a neck massage pillow. It was like running a gauntlet.

Then I go to the fabric store. I get my stuff and they had two registers open so I got in the shorter line. The cashier at the other register turns around and yells at me and the other customers in my line - "Could we please just form one line so we know who's next?" she yells in a really nasty tone.

There's no sign, nothing to indicate they want one line. Man, if I was that rude in my job, I'd be fired. So when it was my turn, I got up to her and she says snottily, "See, didn't you get up here faster this way?"

I said, "I'm not sure but you were certainly rude about it." and pointed out that there's no sign. She says, "Yes, there should be a sign but management won't do anything about it."

I said, "I see, so instead you just yell at the customers."

I guess this is why I hate to shop. :eyes:

Her lips just got a lot tighter and her eyes a bit narrower. I swear, she looked like she was going to turn into some sort of evil creature right there at the checkout.

Some people do NOT belong in retail.

When our economy went in to a recession, that feels like a recession, but actually isn't a recession. :eyes:

That might have sent me over the edge! Malls are strange places, aren't they?

Many of them act offended if you don't want to listen to their spiel.

I'd have been inclined to inform management that I would be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

I know exactly what you mean about running the gauntlet. They've got all these kiosks in the malls now, and apparently it's okay for the workers there to jump out at everyone. I just try not to make eye contact, though I feel rude doing so.
