Yet ANOTHER disappointing end to a promising season.

Edit - it's getting goddamn old seeing other teams party on the Busch Stadium Field.

88. I had a friend from high school who went to A&M
He did that for every time I saw him. I just thought he was saying it wrong, so sometimes I'd correct him, other times I'd let it go. It took me about two years to realize he was saying it backwards on purpose. He always thought I was playing along.

3. Like I said
The Cardinals are the New Braves. Winning seasons ending with a major choke, year after year.

I am glad to see a team make it who has never been. I am not an Astros fan by any stretch, but I will pull for them based on it being their first, the fact that a Cubs supporter cannot pull for the White Sox, and those shitty calls in the ALCS. :-)

And NOTHING since.

My Dodgers only have '81 and '88 in my lifetime. And the Mariners await their first.

And the Cubs have everyone else's 'curse' beat. 1908! With no Series since 1946.

93. Or a Rangers fan. At least the Cubs can claim to be respected.
When I first started watching the Rangers, they played in a stadium that would have embarrassed the Express. I remember going to games where I was the only one in my area. I could have talked to the players and there wouldn't have been crowd noise to interfere with it. The outfielders claimed they could evesdrop on conversations in the stands behind them. Home run balls sometimes hit the stands with a loud clang and were never found by the kids who scrambled over to the vacant outfield section to look for them.

I once told a baseball fan who lived in Fort Worth that I was going to a Rangers game. He didn't know they existed. He was a big baseball fan, too, he had gone to college in Atlanta, and eventually moved to St Louis just because he liked the team (and because of a once in a lifetime job offer, but he had two of those, and chose based on who had the better baseball team).

43. I Remember....
1980, My beloved 'Stros losing to the Phillies.
1983, the heartbreak of losing the ALCS 3-1 versus the Baltimore Orioles.
1986, The heartbreak of that 16-inning game my beloved 'Stros lost to the Mets.
1993, The heartbreak of losing in the Division Series to the Blue Jays.
2000, Another loss in the Division Series for my beloved White Sox.
2003, Damn near dying a thousand deaths of disappointment, thinking the cubs would be the first Chicago team to win a pennant in my lifetime. Intolerable. As a south Sider by birth, that woulda killed my pride, God bless you, Steve Bartman!
2004, Going back to St. Louis, up 3-2 in the NLCS, sitting in a training room at cingular wireless...NONE of us were paying attention in class, every one of us had our cell phones out and were getting real-time feed of the 'Stros game...we were winning in Game 6, and then the loss...and then game 7...heartbreak!

And now, FINALLY...2005...Santa has come for me!
The first time in my entire lifetime that either of my beloved favorite teams have won a pennant, AND THEY DO IT IN THE SAME YEAR!!

What a wonderful conundrum this World Series will be for me. My two favorite teams in all the world are up against each other for the World Championship!! Whod'a thunk it??!?

Dear God, I gotta root for a seven game Series, and for the seventh game to go into extra innings. In the end, having been a Sox fan longer, I gotta pull for the Sox here, but I'm gonna be just as happy if the 'Stros win this!

Andy Rodzilsky, this one's for you!
Monty Stratton, this one's for you!
Shoeless Joe, this one's for you!
J. R. Richard, this one's for you!

Houston, we have a pennant!

As for nuking the South Side, my late beloved father always referred to Southern California as the "land of the fruits and the nuts".

And here's hoping your beloved USC Trojans lose. Talk about shitty calls, the one they got last Saturday against Notre Dame with 5 seconds left on the clock, ranks up there as well. And there were only 5 seconds left on the clock when the ball went out of bounds, not 7.

the South Side of Chicago. I didn't appreciate Mr. Woof's comment about "nuking" it.

As for whining, I love the poll about the World Series that is presently in the Lounge.

Why is it that just because there's no team from either coast in the Series this year, that it seems to have less value?

Talk about whiners!!!

Although there are some who say that he doesn't choke, that his teams just over-achieve so that they always advance beyond their ability.

Can't buy that with Pujols, Eckstein and Edmunds on his team, though.

57. Doesn't Suck As Bad As
Waiting, respectively, 34 and 20 years for your favorite teams to win their first pennants in your entire lifetime!!

Shit. How many fucking pennants do your Cardinals have since 1971? Sorry, but I have no fucking sympathy for you.

I was born in 1971. On the South side of Chicago.
Been a White Sox fan all my life, grew up in Comiskey Park. My dad was a personal friend of Bill Veeck, and I actually got to be in the fabled Bard's Room, once...back in the old Comiskey.

And now, for the first time in my lifetime, the World Series is coming to comiskey!! (Fuck U.S. Cellular, I will NEVER call it "U.S. Cellular Field" it will ALWAYS be Comiskey to me!!)

In 1985, my family moved to Texas, and I adopted the Astros as my new hometown team, retaining allegiance to my beloved White Sox, as well.

Twenty years a fan of the Astros, I remember days in the Astrodome, and, yes, Enron Field, too. Never been there when it was called Minute Maid Park, but I prefer that name to Enron.
But, damn!!

FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE FOR EITHER OF MY FAVORITE TEAMS TO WIN PENNANTS....AND THEY BOTH DO IT IN THE SAME FUCKING YEAR!!

What a conundrum for me for the World Series, I gotta almost root for a TIE!!

Like I said earlier, I'm now rooting for a seven-game World Series, the seventh game into extra innings, and the Sox winning. I have to...sorry, Houston, but I have been a White sox fan longer.

But, if Houston wins, I'll still be damn happy! No matter what now, a team I love will win the World Championship!!

Enjoy your good fortune.

68. Well, Thank You
But it pisses me OFF to hear fans of constantly-winning teams piss and moan when their team doesn't make it.
Goddamn, I waited all my life for this! In my lifetime, however, your Cardinals have won...what, SEVEN fucking pennants??

Pisses me off and reminds me of Yankee fans who think a trip to the World Series is their divine right!

goddamn, you got seven to my one! (Well, two, now, since both my teams have won in the same year) but, shit, gimme a break...I've suffered far longer than you.

69. I'm not comparing histories. I am upset tonight.
This year is what matters.

I don't think my team has a divine right to anything. However, we had the best record all year, and I'm upset that we lost. That's it. What happened in 19fucking82 has no bearing. 2005 is on my mind right now. Just because my team had success in the past doesn't dimish the disappointment I feel right now.

Edit - Just like the Red Sox. Good for them, but why'd they have to beat MY team? x(

And the way things look for the Mariners, it could be the last time for a while. :(

Sorry about your Cards. Neil's happy, though. :pals:

It'll be demolished soon now. I was hoping we'd have one more title for the old stadium... sigh.

I can't bring myself to replace the avatar until tomorrow.

How many great teams has he managed that choked in the playoffs?

Sigh...I might try to make it up to a game in the new joint next year.

50. LaRussa overmanages so horribly.
Are you from the STL area originally? I'm from downstate Illinois, which is evenly split between the blessed (Cardinals fans) and the heathens (Cubs fans). Fortunately, I was born blessed. :D I took in a few games this year, but I'm still bummed that we aren't going out with a Series. The new stadium looks like it'll be great, though, so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I still have family in that general area. The Cardinals are the only team I've been a fan of since birth.

I haven't been to Busch in about 10 years. I'm looking forward to the new place.

70. That's Right
1983 was our magic year. It shoulda been ours. And he fucked it up.

And it almost lead to what would have been disaster for me, had the Padres, God bless them, not come back in 1984, down 2-0 in the NLCS to win the next three and get that pennant away from the Cubs!

I couldn't have tolerated seeing the first chicago pennant of my lifetime going to the sCrubs...especially one year after getting so close, it woulda been like rubbing salt into my wounds.
