2. Brosnan does a good job.

Also to note, he wanted Clinton to have a role in the next Bond movie. Not sure of what became of that:

3. I'm one few (but proud) Dalton fans
Dalton was by far the best Bond, first for taking the role seriously, and second his dialogue is not a bunch of stupid sexist one-liners.

Added bonus: Dalton is also a long-time supporter of both the Democratic Party and the British Labour party.

4. Hmmm
If Connery didn't play it like a block of wood, I'd have felt better about him.

Did Connery read the Bond books to get a feel for how the character ought to be played? That I don't know. Would like to know.

To my knowledge, the only Bond actor who did read the novels was Timothy Dalton. And he did a better job of acting a role which was well written for once (twice, actually). That's not to dis Connery, whose "Dr. No" and "From Russia With Love" were good - his later movies leave a bit to be desired though, IMHO. And Brosnan is nothing more than a poor and pale Roger Moore imitation.

Some people actually think Connery was the best because he played it first (which is also wrong, some yank played Bond in the CBS 1956 tv version of "Casino Royale", not the 1967 spoof...) Given that logic, only William Hartnell would be Doctor Who and Geoffry Hunter would be the only commander of the Enterprise.

Just my $0.03. :D

6. first Bond = George Lazenby, I believe
and I agree that Dalton was my favorite, he'd *gasp* actually get pissed off and take personal pleasure in offing baddies in a gruesome and preferably slow manner.

7. first bond = Barry Nelson
he appeared in a CBS-TV adaptation of Casino Royale in 1954. Peter Lorre played Le Chiffre!

I agree that Dalton was the best ACTOR of the Bonds and was probably closest to the Bond of Ian Fleming's novels in both look and personality. However, that didn't translate very well in the cinema, especially following Connery and Moore's trendsetting tenures in the role. While my favorite Bond movie is OHMSS, my favorite Bond was, and is, the mid-sixties vintage Connery. There's a reason the Bond franchise became the most successful film series in history..the man set the standard.

8. hmm, that's iffy
A made for TV version? I think it's safe to "assume" that the discussion is about big-screen Bonds. I guess you're technically right.

9. Die Another Day was CLOWN SHOES!!!
Absolutely appalling - all FX and no sensible plot or dialogue whatsoever. A promising, serious start, followed by absolute nonsense.

Shite theme tune, shite acting from Madonna, a good idea for a plot which is then thrown aside to make room for absurd set-pieces, farsical dialogue, no flow or coherence and more resembling a series of MTV videos edited together by an amphetemine junkie than a proper Bond film....need I go on?

I saw it in the cinema and it is the only Bond film (including the appalliing Never Say Never Again) that I wouldn't want to watch again.

Brosnan, what have they done to you????

IMHO, of course!
