Because for one thing, you're getting a gift which is more than a lot of people get. Many of us get, "When did your birthday get moved to October?" (not me now, but I've had it happen before)

Besides, I'm a firm believer that when someone actually makes the effort to think of something to get you, rather than just going out and buying what you've told them to buy, that's special. It means they care enough to put some thought into, even if it does turn out to be something strange.
