Almost Famous
Inherit the Wind
The Exorcist
Yellow Submarine
Detroit Rock City
Vanilla Sky
"The Awful Truth" boxed set
the "Freaks and Geeks" boxed set

What's crazy is that two of those are actually videos, as I only own six DVDs! (Well, unless you count the individual DVDs in the sets...) I rarely buy movies, although I buy way too many records and CDs.

Have you heard an American remake is planned? The IMDB page is a bit moribund. Let's hope the project has been abandoned.

My husband doesn't really like watching the same movies over and over so I'll have to think about it. We went through a big DVD buying phase a few years ago but haven't bought many recently because we are poor and my husband rarely wants to see the same movie more than once every couple years. Here are some I remember.
Unbreakable
Sixth Sense
Fight Club
Girl Interrupted
Braveheart
Legally Blonde
VanWilder
Super Troopers

:D

Session 9 was one of scariest movies I've ever seen! And it usually takes a lot to really creep me out (I'm very cynical when it comes to horror movies.) But then, I watched it by myself...that probably added to the creeped out factor!

Both were very well done. And Christian Bale...well, there is one talented and dedicated actor. He looked so terrible. I hope he didn't do any irreversable damage to his body.

105. Bale actually wanted to go skinnier, but the producers wouldn't let him
Edited on Fri Oct-14-05 02:00 PM by primate1
From the IMDb trivia page:
The producers of the film claim that Christian Bale dropped from about 180 pounds in weight down to about 120 pounds in weight to make this film. They also claim that Bale actually wanted to drop down to 100 pounds, but that they would not let him go below 120 out of fear that his health could be in too much danger if he did. His diet consisted of one can of tuna and an apple per day. His 63-pound weight loss is said to be a record for any actor for a movie role. He since gained the weight back for his role in Batman Begins (2005).

94. It's one of my most treasured DVD's
believe it or not! I went through a phase about 5 years ago of buying videos of childrens TV I used to watch, but could never track down an episode of Fraggle Rock. This DVD came out in April last year, but for some reason had a tiny production run with new copies going for £70 on Amazon! It's also got a great documentary about making the show. I'm also eagerly anticipating the release of "The Muppet Show" on DVD next month.

As to 'Session 9', I picked it up after watching Brad Anderson's 'The Machinist' and being incredibly impressed. 'Session 9' is easily one of the better horror films I've seen in a long while. The fact that they used a real abandonded asylum really added to the atmosphere. Did your DVD have the alternate ending? I'm not sure if I like it, but it certainly changes the film quite significantly.

106. I completely understand about the children's videos thing...
Some of the best kids movies and t.v. shows of all time came out of the 80's. I love Labyrinth, Return to Oz, The Neverending Story, etc. Can't say I was a fan of Fraggle Rock, but I adored the Muppet Show and Muppet movies! I also loved Shelly Duvall's show, Faerie Tale Theatre...did you ever see that? When I am rich, I will buy the whole boxed set of that! :-)

About Session 9...I don't have it on DVD, but I would definitely like to get it. I saw it on HBO or Encore, I think. But now I'm all interested in that alterante ending! I'm gonna add it to the old Amazon Wishlist...

107. Never even heard of Faerie Tale Theatre
but just looked it up on IMDB & I'm intrigued. The DVD set is region free so like you, when I'm feeling rich ...

There's so many 80's films I want to collect at some point -- I just wish they'd come out with more extras. Flight of the Navigator, Short Circuit, Inner Space, The Dark Crystal, Cocoon, Tron, and about a zillion others!

Out of interest, did Peter Firmin & Oliver Postgate's childrens shows -- The Clangers & Bagpuss in particular -- ever air in the States?

Sorry, never heard of that one!

You probably would like Faerie Tale Theatre if you liked stuff like Dark Crystal. It had that dark quality to it that was so cool about lots of the good 80's kids movies.

110. ...
Tim Burton directing an episode and then characters played by the likes of Robin Williams & Jeff Goldblum ... definately got me interested!

It's a shame the Clangers never made it over there. I'll let the Beeb describe them:

A series about a family of knitted aliens eking out a threadbare existence on a bleak and cold world.

The Clangers are small, pink mouselike persons who live under their planet's surface in caves protected by saucepan lids. The noise of the lids being closed (to protect their home from falling space debris) gave the Clangers their name. The series told of their encounters with iron chickens, seeds, and sentient musical instruments.

The Clanger family (including Major Clanger, Mother Clanger, Small Clanger, Tiny Clanger and numerous Aunts and Uncles) shared their world with a number of strange but friendly characters:

The Soup Dragon - a cheery, soup-making dragon (is there any other kind?). She made her soup from the volcanic wells at the heart of the Clangers’ world. Soup is the main part of the Clangers' diet, supplemented by blue string pudding.

The Froglets - small orange blobs on legs with lovely big eyes. They travel through the universe via a magical top hat.

The Glow Buzzers - an invaluable source of light in the Clangers caves.

Made by Smallfilms (who also made Bagpuss) Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin's series started in November 1969, just four months after NASA's moon landing. One episode even shows the Clangers making inventive use of a flag left behind by some astronauts.

95. The last time I watched wrestling
was about 6 years ago & haven't since because I've not had access to satellite or cable. However when I heard about the Mick Foley DVD I had to get it, mainly to watch his early stuff that I'd read about in the autobiography but never seen. (Plus I had to own a copy of the 'Hell in a Cell' match!)

The only other wrestling DVD I really want is 'The Rise and Fall of ECW' . (And I'll probably pick up Wrestlemania VI to see the Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior title fight again which in my head is the still the best fight ever!)
