I'm looking for a good fantasy book or series to read.
I'm finishing the George R. R. Martin's A Clash of Kings, third book in the series, but have to wait for the last one to come out. I'm also waiting for the next book in Robert Jordan's series Wheel of Time. Any suggestions?

1. Jordan bored me after awhile.
I started falling asleep after number 5.

3. And he seems to have forgotten about a few of his characters.
It's like he just leaves them out in the cold.
Maybe I should go back and re-read them. I don't know if I'll form a better opinion or not. My first thought-he should have tied it all up around three or four.

5. Yes!
Like I said-I'll go back and reread them to see if I forgot something. But I really did get bored around volume 5. The first couple had such promise. Now he's just stretching them out for the money,IMO.

6. Thats exactly what I thought, about the money.
But, I did read the series twice and enjoyed it more the second time. Did you read all of them or stop at five?

8. I stopped after six.
I didn't have the time or I would have gone on. I feel like I really invested some time in his characters.

7. Simon R. Green.
His fantasy novels (Blue Moon Rising, Swords of Haven, Guards of Haven, and Beyond the Blue Moon) are excellent. His sci-fi sucks, though, so stay away from it.

12. I like them much better than George R.R. Martin's current series. All that
brutality and constant war was hard to slog through, I quit in the middle of the 2nd Martin book.

13. Seconded
I read all nine about 6 months ago & loved them (though particularly adored the 1st & 3rd, as I really got into the characters of FitzChivalry and the Fool).

It was the first proper fantasy series I've read (and the only other one I can think of is the Phillip Pullman trilogy), but before long I was totally involved.

27. Great book, although the sequel is less fun.
I'd suggest Sandman graphic novels, if you have enough arms and legs to pay for them. . . :)

18. I really like Mercedes Lackey and Ann McCaffrey (the Dragonrider series)
Can't remember the names of the Lackey ones, it's been so long! But they were pretty good.

23. Thank you, those are the ones I was thinking of! I used to take them out
from the library, but they didn't have the entire series and I was too broke to go buy any new books, so I kind of gave up.
I really liked the ones I did read, though.
Thanks for jogging my memory!

19. Pratchett's Discworld series
Not only is it fantasy it is social commentary and humor as well. The series is quite long and develops many characters. I like to think of him as what Douglas Adams could have been if he had enjoyed writing.

26. Better than Narnia, IMHO.
From the moment the monkey appeared, I couldn't put the book down. The poor kids. . .
