Funny alert: Blazing red (OMG, my side hurts from laughing)
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 12:53 PM by Jamastiene
I had just gotten out of bed and I was flipping the channels looking for something interesting on television to wake me up. I stopped on WSOC-TV channel 9 Sunday News at Noon. The guy on there was telling about a pet fashion show in the Phillipines and he said they had dogs, cats, birds and (I quote) "What's that? Orange Ootens?" He obviously was trying to pronounce orangutans, but he said orange ootens. OMG, I haven't laughed that hard in ages. The weather guy was sitting beside the guy with his mouth hanging open when the cameras cut back to the anchor desk. He looked like he was in shock. I laughed until my side started hurting. I wish I had been recording that. I could send it to Faux News so that guy can get a promotion. He is obviously Faux News material.

Orange Ooten. He actually said that.

1. That's funny!

I heard one about 5 years ago -- radio personalities were talking about dogs and one of them says that the Taco Bell dog (chihuahua) is a chi-HOO-ah-Hoo-ah! I couldn't believe my ears.

I wonder why they can't seem to pronounce simple words when they are on the air. It's hilarious. I have had so much fun with this. It's just too irresistable to not share it. I had to share it.

Orange ooten.

3. Glad you shared it!
I hear more of them than I can possibly remember. It seems like if they accidentally mispronounced it and KNEW it, they would just say, "Oh, I mean <the right pronunciation>." That would make them sound a lot brighter than when they gloss over it. So maybe they don't even realize they've done it.

I'll remember Orange ooten. Thanks!

4. "Chy Hoo-ah Hoo-ah" may actually have been a spoof.
Les Nessman on "WKRP in Cincinnati" pronounced it that way. Also pronounced the name of golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez as "Chy Chy Rod-ruh-gaze".

6. I listened to those people (my local station, not WKRP) for years.
I don't think it was a spoof. She was pretty dim. If it was a spoof, they fooled me.

10. Wasn't that WKRP in Cincinatti?
Les Nesman never could pronounce spanish words. He once did a story on the golfer, "Chai-Chai Rodri-gweeze."

5. J-Lo Trucks
My ten year old daughter came up with a recent side splitter for me. We saw a pick up truck that had the double cab and the four wheels in the rear. I called them "big-butt trucks". She called them "J-Lo Trucks".

9. Well, they are kind of orange in color...maybe the "ooten" part refers
to the sounds they make? :D

"...and they feasted upon the fruit bats, and the orangutans and the breakfast cereals..." How does that go, exactly?
