1. If it is "slumping"
you need to also get a free anti-spyware program.

I suggest you google AVG anti-virus and Spybot anti-spyware.

8. They are free.
I liked Avant a lot, which is also free. You also need Ad-Aware from Lavasoft and Zone Alarm. These, too, are free.

3. Mine Too! I asked just the same question two days ago.
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 12:24 AM by Skip Intro
the mouse acts irratically, programs are really slow to load, for many actions that I take the result is delayed, I'e seen a small, dos-like dialog box - black background. I saw it once, and it disappeared as qickly as it appeared - while the computer was booting up. I've seen, "file missing" a few times recently.

I've googled for free virus scans. Found a few, most will scan, but you have to buy to get removal. One found nothing, one found two "critical" files, one of which was "MYDOOM" There seeems to be little info about that, whatever it is, but I've heard of it before.

Does any of this sound familiar.

I haven't tried the fixes suggested in post 1.

9. AVG without a doubt
It updates daily and doesn't leave a ton of shit on your machine like Norton (for one) does. Also, I had Panda Software's and it sucked. I got infected with two separate viruses right under its nose. AVG catches them immediately!
