Hello??? Do I NOT have gutters?!?
I appreciate rain. I appreciate appreciation for God's sake, at this point. Why is it raining down my windows? I have gutters, or at least I'm being told I do. Someone came here, claimed to have cleaned them, so I must have them, right?

My floors, radiators, EVERYTHING near my window is freaking wet from the rain, and my windows were open MAYBE two inches. It is pouring DOWN my windows!... not outside my windows, DOWN my windows. There is more water falling down my windows than there is falling a foot away from my house.

Do gutter cleaners clean your house "of" the gutters themselves? Perhaps I have not explained in proper "gutter" terminology, what I wanted him to do was "clean them"? Perhaps he may have cleaned the air out of the gutters, by filling them?

Or just perhaps, I shall ask my hubs how much new gutters cost? I hate when a situation ends in "how much does it cost". Oh brother.

Perhaps I will have a "gutter mouth" when I write THAT check out.

1. It sounds like your gutters are clogged or else poorly installed. Did you
actually go outside to LOOK at the offending gutters to see where precisely the problem is?

If they're not installed close to the roof line, then they will permit water to run down the house.

If they're clogged anywhere, water will overflow.

It's not likely they're broken.

Are there trees overhanging your house?

3. Thanks for the checklist... it's daylight now, so I'll be looking into
all of that. I did have the trees pruned, the gutters cleaned just two days ago. They aren't newly installed and the problem just started yesterday. It did rain hard, but I've been in this house for eleven years and this never happened. They aren't seamless gutters though, so this may be the beginning of the end of their time.

6. Ah... well, all it takes is one little clog, or a crack.. but even a crack
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 12:35 PM by radwriter0555
would cause a drip and not a deluge down the side, one would think.

I would also check conditions at the roof line as well... make sure all the shingles are tight, nothing slipped, etc.

I just sold the last of my houses a couple months ago, and am enjoying being a renter for a while again.

I'll be buying again next year, but it's nice not to have the headache for the time being... sometimes it's easier to be the indian instead of the chief once in a while.

5. Same Thing Here
I woke up in a wet bed. The water was coming in the window and it was a big mess. Everything soaked. I think the problem is that there is bird nest in that gutter right above the window because I saw them up there over the summer bringing sticks and other stuff. It must have clogged the gutter. It was not a pleasant experience, but I'm not complaining. Could have been much worse!
