My Bedroom smells like BURNING!

Yes, there was a fire.
Yes, it totally sucked.
Yes, everyone including the pets made it out okay.

13. The firemen had a fucking fieldday on my room
shit was kicked 30 feet away from where it was, but as far as I'm concerned they did a kick fucking ass job of localizing the damage. It's actually really stunning how they kept the water damage so close to the burn damage. They did kick my favorite chair out the window while it was still on fire, which I'll admit was pretty cool to watch, but all of my walls which were white are now black, and my main computer won't boot.

Oh well, I'm okay, my cat is okay, my camera is okay, my extra lenses are okay, and a few other things are okay. Everything else is black with soot, stinks like smoke.

this one as a decent outcome, yes?

Though I imagine it's a bitch to deal with nonetheless.

Hoping the best for you.

I have a friend who works collecting evidence and she says CSI has made her life hell. Everyone expects an answer in 48 minutes.

But sometime the cause of a fire is obvious. Guess not so in your room.

Sorry about your loss of lots of belongings.

When my father was a kid, they had a house fire. Lots of keepsakes (family photos, my great-grandfather's blackstick from Ireland, etc.) were destroyed, though everyone was all right. It always made me dread the idea of a fire.

Losing my computer would be catastrophic for me. God, I need to make some backups.

A house I was staying at caught on fire once, and as they hollered the news to me down the street, I yelled, oblivious to who might be listening, "Grab the pot!" Priorities.

This really sucks. I hope the disruption to your life is minimal. I'll have to post a news story about cell phone users drowning in their SUV to cheer you up.

Things can be replaced (well, most of them).

I've been there, my house burned in '91. We weren't home at the time so everyone was safe. One thing I couldn't replace were pictures of my kids when they were younger. (They were 13 and 10 at the time)

Stay safe during the clean-up phase. Don't know what was in your room but many items give off toxic fumes even after the fire is out.

Best wishes to you.

Dunno yet, I haven't been able to really diadnose the computer since the back of the monitor melted into itself.

The damage was extremely localized, meaning some areas got totally fucked while others were left untouched. Like the roll of paper towels right next to the molten monitor. Weird.

79. so sorry to hear about this
That smell stays with you...for a very long time.

Glad you and yours made it out safely.

Things are replaceable. People and pets are not.

Take care of yourself.

I'm sorry! My roommate burned down our apartment a few years ago so I understand how you must feel right now. It'll get better.

93. I'm so sorry for you!
I just learned what happened, man. The house I was living in in college had a fire and I remember the smell and sifting through my stuff trying to figure out what could be salvaged. It's hard for people that haven't been through it to know what it's like.

I'm mighty glad you're safe.

Yes, that really sucks.
Fairly good news that it was just that room - but it still sucks anyway.

97. That smell still haunts me
I had a house burn down several years ago. The few things I was able to salvage stunk for years.

Just a couple of years ago I was walking down the street and out of nowhere I got this sick feeling. When I looked around I noticed that the house I had just walked by had fire damage.
