8. Yeah, they are going into their mis-season swoon again....
Minnesota will put it to them next week. Seems like they win the big games and then struggle vs the wildcats and gophers each year.

How 'bout Michigan losing for the third time this year? and what's up with Purdue?

I was hoping you'd kick the Bucks butts. Unfortunately, our season is all but over after today. I was at the Big House and it was pretty depressing when it was over. Time for a new coach. Lloyd has to go.

I love being there on crisp football Saturdays in the fall, but I'd be happier if we won. For the Wisconsin game, I was in DC for the march and watched us lose on the TV at RFDs.

38. JoePa is the leader
of getting screwed out of National championships.

I remember a few years ago Garth Brooks offered to hold a game so the country could figure out who was actually number one.

I just can't remember the team that got it that year

40. Nebraska - 1994 - my Freshman year at PSU... and you know what
Nebraska deserved it - outright.

PSU's defense blew that year: 29 points to friggin indiana. the two best teams PSU beat that year were OSU and UM teams that had 5 or 6 losses between them. Nebraska beat colorado & miami - much better teams that year. Perhaps if joe hadnt scheduled creampuffs like USC (they sucked in the early 90s), Rutgers and Temple, they would have had a win to hang their hat on.

Between no quality wins and a defense that gave up way too many points, they blew their shot at a title...

39. and ranked 16th....
they need - at least:
1) either USC or Texas to lose
2) a little more respect from the pollsters.

oh - and to win out.

getting all three will be a stretch.

I doubt they'll have anything left for next week - and I am a PSU alum and fan.

43. They'll move up to 9 after this week
They beat the 6th ranked team in the country, and a team that started ranked 3, I believe.

I give Ohio State a lot of credit for inviting Texas to play them in the second game. Penn State's first three games were traditional rubber matches - easy home wins against solid but low-end teams. That said, Ohio State was ranked 6 before tonight, and they were basically shut down. Penn State went 3 and out their last 4 series. They tried to eat up clock time and did that successfully, but never with a first down. Ohio State could not capitalize. Their mammoth offense, though hurt by an early offensive line injury, could not put together a drive for points. They didn't score once in the second half. let me repeat. The 6th ranked team in the country was held scoreless in the second half. By the Penn State defense.

But you're right. Penn State will have to win in Ann Arbor, and they'll have to beat Bucky, and they'll have to win in East Lansing. That said, I think you're wrong about the pollsters. If they do win those games (and they shouldn't be looked at as a National Championship team UNLESS they go 12-0), the pollsters will be drooling over them because of the narrative: unranked former great comes back with fast true freshmen and traditional smashmouth D to upset the powerhouses of the division. The narrative already has the pollsters seduced, and will continue to do so. We just need to keep winning...

49. First of all, I'm thrilled about the win!
Second of all, I know JoePa is pretty good about getting his team to not let down. Especially when he has quality teams. I think there will naturally be a little letdown, but will it be enough for a loss? Well, I didn't expect the win over Ohio State.

You could be right about the pollsters. I hope so. Anyway, if they go undefeated, that would be a great chance for JoePa to retire.

46. PSU would have to climb over
Texas and VPI, and even JoePa's cuffs might not be THAT tall.. .

VPI probably has a loss in 'em, given the "Murderers' Row" they face in the rest of their schedule in the ACC. But they ARE good. Neither my beloved Mountaineers nor the hapless illiterati of Huntington High (known to the rest of the world as Marshall "University") had any business on the same field with Beamer's Boys.

Texas, on the other hand, has the inside track, given the candy-ass schedule they play in the jelly-soft Big 12. And their victory on the road against Ohio State lost a LOT of luster tonight. Nonetheless, if the entire team goes out 30 minutes before game time every Saturday for the next five weeks and swills an entire keg of Everclear, they might lose one. Jeebus! Can't you see 'em sweatin' the BAYLOR game? The A&M game? Saints preserve us from Texas Tech!

Hahahahahahaha! Wooooo-hoohoohoohoohoo!

Penn State's biggest threat comes next week on the road against a freshly-beaten-for-some-sort-of-useless-piece-of-crockery Michigan team. Michigan, being sans crockery/bucket/axehandle, will be ripe for a face-saving victory before the hundred thousand people who say "youguys" at that really big stadium named after some guy who used to actually build cars in the United States in the Battle-for-the-Wooden-Spoon-That-Got-Left-In-The-Beans-That-Spoiled-
Sometime-Late-Last-Week-But-We-Ate-Em-Anyway.

And undefeated Alabama will be playing ball, too, over in Oxpatch, Mississippi. And Coach Bryant will be watching.

Roll.

Tide.

Roll!

Truthfully, I fairly yearn for an undefeated match-up between UA and PSU. It would be a manifestation of the universe in perfect order.

:woohoo:
