Does Playboy send out unsolicited subscriptions?
My wife just got a copy of Playboy in the mail. I didn't sign her up for it and she certainly did not sign up for it.

The thing is, it is not under her legal name - it uses her English first name and my last name (she's not from the US and has kept her original Chinese name on all our legal documents)

So, I'm trying to figure out how she got it.

1. Just in case you're posting this question...
...because you're trying to get some third-party verification for the "explanation" that you are telling your wife...

Sure. Playboy does send out unsolicited subscriptions. Tell her Skinner said so. ;-)

4. yes i got one

i'm in a "good" zip code for that kind of marketing, so i get plenty, i still get esquire, which sometimes actually has a good read in it

i didn't mind playboy altho it's pretty thin now

stuff & maxin i was tempted to tape to a brick & return to publisher but since i was getting them for free i decided i would just simmer down & use them as garden mulch

anyway magazine publishers need to show their advertisers that they have so many subscriptions from zip codes where ppl actually buy things offered to their advertisers

if you're in a good zip code, you may start seeing more of these comps

5. I'm trying to figure out how they have it under her English name
I could see how they could send it to her under her Chinese name, as most people couldn't tell if her name was male or female.

7. Someone most likely had it sent to her
It's pretty easy to anonymously sign someone up for a subscription or put them on a mailing list. This type of thing has happened to me as well as a few people I know before.

8. I figure out where stuff comes to me by the name they use.
I get bills and subscriptions under different names, and my ssn and state benefits are under one version of my name and my hospital info is under a different version of my name.

She needs to think hard where she used that version of her name (signing up for something, getting something one line). Her name was on a list that got sold to Playboy.

9. it could be one of the two...
The only place where the name on the subscription appears is on our SBC phone bill & I think our gas bill.

10. Call them and see if they sell names
most likely the phone company because you (or she) did not 'opt out' of some bullshitty thing. If either admits to it, let them know that a) you don't want them to do it anymore (if you don't) and b) they're selling the names to marketers who send Playboy out.
