Queensland's own beer (though I usually drink the low-alcohol one).

lol....GOOD STUFF! I worked the Surfers Indy Car race a few times back in the 90's (The inaugural and the next 3) and there was a pub right around the corner from the Marriot where i drank my fair share.

I envy you living in one of the truly gorgeous places in the world. Queensland is wonderful.

On edit to ask....Aussies do think Fosters is basically Australian Budweiser, don't they? I mean, you have VB, Carlton and all the others.......is Fosters simply pedestrian?

PSS I didnt just like it there, i loved it. If i ever won the lottery, i'd look for property in Queensland. I lived in Alice Springs in the mid 70's and loved the NT as well. Someday i'll come back and stay for much longer than a race weekend.

I got the impression that that's the opinion of many Queenslanders. Fosters is bloody piss and if you want a good beer, you drank 4X. Is that a sentiment you think is widely held?

BTW....where in QL do you reside? Near or on the coast? North? South? I know little more than the general shape of the state, and have only been from Coolangatta Airport to Surfers, so i never even got to Brisbane (which is where they fly the Indy cars and equipment in to, then local drivers haul it all down to the circuit on the cargo pallets they are packed on.)

No I don't think Queenslanders would insult Budweiser like that - Fosters is worse than watered-down cat's pee.

We drink a wide variety of beers nowadays, but the most popular still seems to be Fourex. Fosters is WAY down on the list - other beers that seem to go OK are Cascade (from Tasmania), Hahn, and Carlton Midstrength. When pubs became "untied" from the breweries that owned them (they either sold Fourex or Carlton beers and no other), all the other beers came flooding in.


I live in Brisbane, about 45 minutes' drive north of Surfers. Brisbane straddles the Brisbane River, which empties into Moreton Bay, so it's kind of on the coast. But an hour north or south, we have access to some great beaches.

You have a sense of humor about it, which (you gotta admit) is fairly rare among diet purists of any sort.

I think it's sort of a shortened version of vegetarian. But, the proper pronunciation would be with a long "e" vegan.

Besides, I'm a gym rat that doesn't eat meat, eggs, dairy... I HAVE to have a sense of humor about it.

I think that when folks are mocked or confronted about being veg, yes, they lose any humor they might have. However, I see no sense in getting bent over not seeing something as funny, even at my expense, when intended as lighthearted.
