Tonight we put our sweet kitty "Scotty" in the bay to sleep next to us.
Scott died and was cremated in January after thirteen years of being the greatest pet we ever had. He had cancer. We live on a boat and Scott was always a boat cat and an island cat. When we had him put to sleep and my husband insisted that his ashes be returned to the island instead of being buried in a "kitty cemetery" on the main land, "Because he is a Keys cat."

His little cardboard box containing his ashes sat on our microwave for months because we were not ready to say goodbye. But tonight we made the decision that he should be put to rest. A few of his ashes were put in a small ceramic look-alike of Scott. The rest went into the Florida Bay next to our boat to sleep next to us.

Sorry for the long story but he deserves it. Sweet tears for our Sugar Bear and sweet dreams.

Thanks for listening.

3. I'm so sorry
He sounds like such a love. We also had our Fergie cremated because we were living in Pennsylvania at the time, but he was a Kansas cat. Now we have his ashes here in Texas with us.

Take care.

4. Thanks, everyone. Wasn't really looking for a response
but needed to say a few words in Scott's honor. But we really do appreciate the kind words from fellow pet lovers. Thanks. :)

10. Lovely! He was a fan of fishy treats...
Edited on Sun Oct-02-05 07:47 PM by tinfoilinfor2005
but much like Garfield, he enjoyed lasagna and loved ham and cheese. I guess that is why he was always 'a bit' overweight.

15. Thanks Rev...
My grandfather was a great pet lover. Whenever he went out for a walk, he always came home with at least a dog or two or a cat following him. I remember my mother saying, "Oh no, Dad, not again" and having to check the collars and calling the owners. Once they called an owner who came to collect his dog and it turned out that the dog was blind and lost and had followed Opi home simply out of trust. We used to tease him and call him St. Francis.

But the point of this story is that my husband is no St. Francis, and had no love for animals at all until I brought home a little scraggly kitten. Jim hated cats and most animals, but within a month of raising this kitty, Scott became what he now refers to as "my very best friend ever." God works in mysterious ways, and he certainly did with these two. This little feral kitty learned that humans weren't so bad after all, and my husband learned that love comes in all shapes and sizes.

20. I'm enjoying cookies and taking my baby steps.
I have a FEMA trailer and I just got power to it yesterday and will begin staying in it tonight.

The Red Cross is another story, still trying to catch up with them, but hey, I have always appreciated life's challenges, keeps me hoping.

I hope you guys are okay. If you are like me, I know you can't wait for November!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:

 :loveya:

22. oh, you gotta know it!
Just heard that they're watching something "out there" for future development. Rats. Really were hoping this was the end of it. Congrats on getting into a trailer. I guess inch by inch, huh? Well if you run out of cookies, there's more where those came from. Just yell!

BTW - We got a check from our insurance company last week for the damage on our boat and was amazed at how quickly that happened, so there is hope!

17. I'm so sorry for your loss...but that was a great story. I think
Scotty would have approved. We had to put our dog Cody to sleep in June...his ashes are sitting in a cabinet because I cannot decide what to do with them. Do I bury them in the yard so he will "be with us"? (Corny, I know.) Or do I spread his ashes at a place he loved to hike with us?

Man, I miss him.

19. Awe, sorry about the loss of your puppy dog.
It makes it harder to get another animal, doesn't it, because you know you will have to go through that pain again.

26. You know what? Our house was so empty, that my wife, kids and I
went down to the local shelter and filled out an application to adopt another dog. A shepard mix came in the shelter a week later who loves kids and he is now our dog. His name is Buddy and he is a character.

As hard as it is to say goodbye, they add so much to a family...I cannot imagine not having a dog in our house.

24. That's very beautiful
Don't apologize - you lost a member of your family. That's hard. I think your way of putting him to rest was appropriate and beautiful.

I have two urns on my desk, my two Boxer dogs who came with me from Vermont to California. Someday they will go back to Vermont, to their favorite place in the woods where we went for walks. Until then, they are safe with me.

Peace to you.

25. Oh, it's sweet - I had a dog named Scott, who also died at 13
We called him Scotty-Boo, or the Boo Boy, and he was also very very sweet (and we took him up to the San Juan Islands a lot, where one day we will take his ashes, too.) Your post made me think of him - though I think of him every day, as it is. I'm glad he will always be with you now.
