And the Yankees win the pennant, penance, pendant, pumice
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 11:41 PM by DainBramaged
I am a Yankees fan since a way long time ago, and them coming from nowhere to (yet again) screw Boston and potentially kick their sorry butts back to oblivion has not been very important this year. I have much hard earned and treasured memorabilia from days gone by, but it just didn't feel right this year. I have never felt about baseball, let alone the Yankees, like this before.

But, I know why, and the feeling sucks. I wish the feeling was gone, and maybe it will be in 2006, but 3 more years of this pain in my gut is unbearable.

Go Joe, Derek, Alex, Hideki, Gary, Jason, Bennie, Jorge, Robbie, and the man who deserves more than any of them to win a ring, Don Mattingly. Make us proud again.

3. Last year, baseball took my mind off things.
Then again, I'm a huge sox fan. The kind of fan that was going to be watching game 4 to the last out no matter what happened. Anything is possible, and for once it was.

Even if you could somehow take the WS win away from us last year, you will NEVER take away the comeback, nor the image in my mind of Jeter and A-Rod standing there in disbelief, almost crying, as the sox took game 7. Never. :D

On a more serious note, sports in general have been slowly tanking in my mind for a while now. The money and corruption levels are making it harder and harder for me to really get into it these days. The yankees may be 'the man', but the sox have now become 'the man, jr.'. Also, I don't like the personnel changes we've made this season at all. I was all prepared to start saying 'There's always last year!' before the season, too. ;)

4. with the largest payroll in baseball, the 2005 Yankees somehow . . .

morphed into this gang of likable underdogs . . . the guys who brought them the division championship are named Cano, Wang, Chacon, and Small -- with occasional but critical contributions by the likes of Bubba Crosby and Al Leiter . . . sure, the stars are the core of the team -- but they'd be ten games out without these guys . . . they're fun to watch, and fun to root for . . .

5. But the core has grown old, and the hangers-on too expensive
I have a feeling that George may have learned a lesson this year with the kids.

6. *grabs a stick and pokes*
Lovable underdogs, they AIN'T. But, I know how you feel about it. As long as they don't play my Cardinals, I'll be okay.
